I just made a quick video of a laser I bought on eBay. I have no idea how powerful it is, but I'm pretty happy with it. Also, I'm new, I just made my account today after lurking for a couple of months. I hope it's okay to post a video so soon.

This is the eBay item: Blue Ray 445nm Laser 5mW Flashlight Pointer Torch Visible Beam Cigarette Burn | eBay

Here's an image of the diode.

Here's the optics.

I bought a similar laser in that host. It puts out about 1200mW. Cool unusual host

Yeah, absolutely not 5 mW  You're probably right, somewhere in the ballpark of 1-1.2W. It's not cost effective for the manufacturers to run the diode at a lower power, so if it's a 1W diode in there, it's likely running 1 watts :)

I appreciate your input guys! I have zero knowledge of what 1W looks like.

Yea i was gonna mention the 5mw factor. That diode would not be able to even get powered that low and still light im sure. Be careful with your new "toy" cause its not a toy!!

Yeah Craig, I'm just glad you mentioned you were wearing safety goggles in the video.

Nice video, That thing packs a punch Craig!...Like the host too... it looks as though it will do a good job of dissipating heat with those fins on. :)

More than likely that's outputting >1W. Not a half bad looking host, either, though I don't care for the size difference between the tailcap and the rest of the body, I think it looks a bit goofy. Either way not bad for 80$.

I'm sure you have read this everywhere, and I was glad you mentioned eye protection in the video, but it can't be stressed enough- be mindful of where the beam is going; you don't want yourself or a bystander to catch a reflection and end up blind. It only takes one flash to cook your eye!

I will be very careful with it :yh:

I'd watch your duty cycle bro. don't forget its an ebay laser I wouldn't keep it on longer that maybe 30 seconds or so
