Hi,

I bought a 1W 445 nm laser diode on ebay, and also a suitable driver from the user "o-like" on ebay. This laser are collimated with an Axis (?) lens. What I see is that the beam is spread more than a 405nm diode. Is this 445 nm diode a "multi-mode" diode (several lasers side by side in one chip)?

It also seams it radiates far less than 1W even if an "infinite" focus will hurt when pointing on my skin, but not more than a 120 - 150mW 405nm laser. There are marked two places with "+" on this driver. I am not sure where to put the 1W laser diode or the 405nm diode, as this driver also can power a <200mW 405nm diode...

Does anyone here have experience with these diodes and drivers?

The driver: 1W 445nm blue laser diode driver / 405nm laser driver - eBay (item 180608692909 end time Feb-04-11 00:25:11 PST)

The laser: 1W 445nm Blue Laser Diode with Lens - eBay (item 320629076994 end time Feb-07-11 15:44:33 PST)

br.

I did figure it out. I found a picture on this site. I have connected the battery directly to the laser at 3.7V.... it burns even then, but what a brightness I got when connected it correctly!!!

The diode must be connected to the + and - on the opposite side of the coil side. I incorrectly connected the diode to + on the coil side... It says "B+" so I should understand that this is battery +.... LOL

you can use an lm317. it just needs to be used inside of its capabilities. also direct driving is not such a good idea. you can blow your diode.

Hey Low-Q: I just purchased the same driver on ebay. I havent recieved it yet but thanks for sharing your experience. The picture will help me in my project. I had also powered the 1w 445nm diode with a driver that did not supply enough to pass the threshhold and it seems when its in that mode you can see the multiple diode elements in this device. It looks like 4 or 5 Parallel lines.
