I am bidding (and hoping to win) a CO2 laser off of Ebay. I just had a few questions:

1) I will be needing to travel with this, and it will surely break in a suitcase (Savage Airlines ;D ). I was wondering where I could find a nice little hardcase, or if someone has something to spare.

2) Does anyone know where I can find some good goggles for that power/wavelength?

3) Does anyone have a PSU to spare? (willing to pay of course :p )

4) It is a watercooled unit, and so I need a watercooler. I have had experience with that kinda stuff before,in water coolling PC's. Although this unit should have more options regarding water cooling, as the space is not limited. I know the cheapest way to do it is to hook one end up to the good ol' water hose in my backyard, and the other end to the drain... but that doesn't sound to neat, and I wonder what the Fire Marshall will think (behind my house is a fire station, and next door to me lives a cop and a fire marshall ;D ;D ) when he sees some Iranian playing with a 15Watt laser... ;D ;D

I could use a standard computer water cooling set, with the reservoir/fans/pump/etc. but then I would have to do some hotwiring to get the power to the water cooling unit set (they run off of the modular power sockets on the PSU's in computers).

So, is there another cheap alternative?

thanks,

amk

Oh one more thing, would using Computer Cooling solution (Propylene Glycol/Anti-Corrosion agents) hurt the glass? and a bit of UV sensitive Coolant solution would be kewl...

What about UV coolant make this deep IR laser cool?

It needs water cooling and a PS providing ~20.000 volts at ~15 mA.

If you get it from Dravine 2000 --- Good luck -- It will break and suck in the water. He will then call you the bad guy.

I believe basic poly-Carb glasses stop 10,600 nM.

you can buy a heatercore from an auto parts store for around $20 and should have no problem dissipating the heat of the laser, then just get an inline pump and you're good to go

I can always shine a blacklight at it and it would be kewl.

I have a radiator (computer cooling), but I need the pump and stuff.

Now to find a PSU...

Hi amkdeath! I have one of this that run at 60 watt, and to cooling it, I have made a liquid closed circuit with some parts to cool the PC. I have found all parts on the Thermaltake web site: -- www.thermaltakeusa.com -- and for cooler liquid I have used the Paraflu (the liquid used to cool the cars).
The system works very good.

If you need, I can take and post some pictures of this system... :)

Hi, I have posted the pics, at this time this laser is always "work in progress".;)

I have to hook the laser tube in a aluminium tube to make a most secure body for the laser, and then I have to make a mount system.

When I will finish my project I will post the result.

If any one have any question, PM me :)

What are you going to use for an objective? If you are using a lens to focus the beam, make sure you run dry air over the lens to keep smoke and moisture off.
