WTS: 10W 808nm Diode Arrays

Hi, I got 2 808nm Coherent Diode Arrays. Not sure the exact rating on them but I'm guessing its 20W or less. Either way, they're safe for at least 10W.

For 1 diode array I'm asking  $140+$10 for insured priority shipping in the US (basically $150 shipped if you're in the US) for the array. Everything's nicely mounted in Coherent's regular copper block for these diode arrays, you just need to provide your own power and heatsinking.

And if anyone isn't confident in the heatsinking themselves, for an extra $35 I can provide a permanently attached TEC + CPU heatsink/fan installment that'll be enough to let you run the array CW below freezing if you ever desire.

now since it's an array it will be harder to colimate yes?

Right, its an array meaning a bunch of diodes. They're all close side-by-side within a cm of a bar, so its still good for side-pumping DPSS and just playing around with. You can't really collimate them though - not just harder, but impossible. Its like asking how you're gunna collimate a bunch of leadlights at once, you just can't do it, you need to address each individually.

What you CAN do though is feed it into a fiber bundle and then collimate the output from there. Its a far cry from a nice pretty collimated beam, but its a lot better than trying to collimate the base array.

Keep in mind though, this is the downfall of diode lasers, and why we need diode arrays. The best you can normally find a single diode emitter in is ~4-5W, although they come a little higher. The highest you can get from a single-mode diode is only a few hundred mW at best. Hence the need for DPSS, and hence why diode arrays are so important. If you cant get high powers out of tiny diode chips, you gotta use a nice big crystal as your active medium, and you gotta pump it full of energy somehow - so we use diode arrays (or flashlamps, but those are grossly inefficient by comparison). So many common DPSS processes like 1064nm, 532nm, 473nm, etc lasers rely on 808nm pumps, so 808nm diode arrays are very important to the industry.

A bit more of an answer than you were bargaining for, eh?

I'm going to have to ask... Aren't there those beam splitters/combiners that look like a long glass rod? Couldn't we simply slap that in front of a line-collimated array beam and then turn the line into a spot? :-? I mean... It's a question that's just begging to be asked ;)

Daedal - I have seen both that, and an oooober long plano-convex lense that does the same function - That is the "reported" use for it at any rate ! :cool:

Sorry, but I'm not really sure what you mean. Cylindrical lenses are basically thin long glass rods (normally split in two down the length) that you stick in front of the diode array to reduce divergence on that axis. Perhaps that's what you meant?

As for beam combining, there are strict limits to what you can combine by the conventional methods like dichroic mirrors and polarizing beamsplitters. What is this "long glass rod" combiner that you're talking about?

UPDATE

Well, so far it doesn't look like anyone is interested, but if so, I've just confirmed that these are 20 Watt arrays at the very least. I don't have a PSU that puts out enough current to test, but its possible they may even be 40 watts.

Hmmmm - do I hear 80watts ? LOL

My funds are tapped out at present - but if you will accept a swap of 10 of those diodes I am getting soon - I will trade you ? Okay - 12....but 15 is my final offer ! LOL Lemme know :)

Haha, nah, they only make them up to 50W I think, and I'm pretty sure this isn't that high.

Sorry though, I already paid for 5 of your diodes and I'm already unsure what to use them for. 15 sounds like a sweet deal but I really don't have interest in that weak of a red at the moment (and no, they aren't weak, but I like POWER! :)), sorry!

It looks like they're gunna end up on eBay when I get around to taking some pics. Hopefully they'll sell for more than what I was asking here
