WTB: Waterproof laser safe for deep dives

I want a reliable, 20-50 mW (maybe more/less) green laser that I can take scuba diving and snorkeling.

I want it to be bright enough to see the beam in dim water, but I don't "need" to kill the fish. I am trying not to

spend too much on this as I am buying a blu ray laser and I don't want to break the bank! Not sure about price,

but it depends on the laser and the method that it will be made. I want it to be able to safely go down at around 100 feet if possible.

Well... The only water resistant green laser i have heard of is WL photonic disruptor...which is a very overpriced seeming gimicky laser. I personally have never seen one in real life, so thats purely based off of pics and that episode on future weapons. Good luck on your search tho... perhaps creating a waterproof casing for an existing laser would work better??

P.S. For those interested, according to my googling, the pressure at 100 ft is about 58psi. or almost 4 atmospheres....

There are other waterproof lasers on DX as well. Only other waterproof laser I can think of is the WL Spyder II series, but those are like $1,700

Everyone, thanks for the helpful replies so far.

The photonic disruptor seems to be highly water resistant, but not quite water proof. I think it would be risky going over 10-15 feet deep. I read a review about a guy who was sent 2 photonic disruptors to do a review. He said he believed that he was sent 2 lasers because WL knew he was a diving enthusiast, and they figured that he would break one or something.

The dealextreme laser does peak my interest a little bit, but I would be worried about it's reliablilty and if it really works at 10 meters, especially since it says "not tested by me" on the only review that mentions depth. I would want to go deeper than 10 meters too. Also, a review says it's not available anymore and it also says sold out.

Daguin: I have seen that laser, but many reviews aren't spectacular, and the power doesn't seem to be that great unless on a night dive (even then it's not that great). Another thing that bothers me is that I have seen 5 different sites selling that exact laser advertising different max depths and more. I think I need more power than that!

I've been talking to IgorT lately about the blu rays. When I asked about this, he said a good way to waterproof would be to put the laser in a flashlight body that can take 100 feet of pressure. Anyways, I got scared off of all the models I've seen online, so I figured I would try making this thread to see if anyone was up for the task?

Hmm, now I'm a little interested! I can't seem to find any mention of this on the internet though. I figure that the WL website would list that on their website if their laser could dive down to an impressive 100 feet. If water leaks into the laser it's probably ruined beyond repair, right?

What the hell has WL done with the photonic disruptor? The last time I checked, it was $300, now they have doubled the price... What are they thinking? :-?

RandomGiant, don't go with a laser from WL. You will only be dissappointed with the quailty, and they are crazily overpriced.

If you do buy the Photonic Disruptor, purchase the 2 year warranty with it too.

If it leaks, and you're within 100 feet depth, you can claim there was a defect with the laser (which there would be) and return it to get fixed

I know a member who is selling a used one for $225, but there is no warranty left. I think my best bet for now is to see if a member is willing to put an existing laser inside a waterproof case (be it flashlight or whatever). I wonder if simply putting a laser in a clear heavy duty waterproof bag would work, especially if the laser is semi-low power.

Its a waterproof rubberised torch anyway which is completely sealed. The only places where there are seals is the screw and the front lens.

So if you wanted it to be absolutely waterproof I would reinforce the seals.

for 30mW i could do it for just over $45 + shipping....

I am working on the assumption that all the pressure will be compressing the torch, correct? if so then yes this will be waterproof for dives.

note 2: it will not be as professionally made as some of the other members but from what I can see it works....

Ya know to be perfectly honest your best bet would be to throw it inside a really good waterproof dive bag and get yourself a basic 30-50mw normal laser from DX. I dive a lot and I could very easily throw a laser inside a waterproof host that would be good down to about 50 feet, maybe up to 100 feet but it wouldn't be guaranteed at 100ft. I've seen lots of plain ol' basic bags that you can throw it in and it would work fine.

I have the Z-Bolt scuba laser. It's very sturdy! Also, it's pot moddable like the Galileo series (but that does void your warranty).

I have built him a waterproof all terrain torch its crude but will get the job done. Im just finishing it off

however if he finds a better deal he can always change his mind and ill keep it lol

its supposed to be a 5mW but is actually oputputting nearer 30mW
