your best bet is a cheap one off ebay. i dont see the point in paying big bucks for an iron when the all burn up in the end anyway and the some of the cheap ones are just as good as the expensive ones...

I disagree. I accidentally left my soldering station on over the weekend once. It has a built in "sleep mode" where it drops down to 250 degrees or so. I came back on monday and the tip wouldn't tin, I replaced the tip and have been using it to this day. It has a digital readout and always stays within 10 degrees of what I set it to. Other than the tip I fried I've been using the same tip for almost a year and it still tins instantly and evenly. Proper soldering stations are a dream to work with, the difference is night and day.

Mine is some industrial iron from a pcb manufacturing company I got used off ebay for $20, but I'm guessing it was only around $150 new. I would so totally pay full price for it again any day of the week.

I also just recently bought a metcal station from this thread: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1229571140
I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but it's pretty much idiot proof, always makes perfect joints without having to set temperatures.

You get what you pay for. ;)

I would just pony-up and get a decent soldering station for around $60.

I personally use a 15w from radioshack. It works fine. I bought a finer tip for 3 dollars. It is well worth the money.

The problem with ebay, amazon and radioshack is that they don't ship to Norway, or take ridiculous shipping fees.
