Hello,
I'm looking to buy a red kaleidoscope laser for photo work. One that would accept the standard kaleidoscope head used on the green laser pens would also work. 30-50mw. My main concern is that I don't want to damage my or my model's eyes should a stray beam or reflection hit them so maybe smaller is better.
I've been doing the Google thing to find one but the only place that has them that I could find dosen't have a contact box, email or phone number listed and only accepts PayPal (which I won't use) so I don't want to order from them.
Here's a sample of how it might be used:

Attached laser photo.
Cheers again,
Konijn

Where did you get the photo?

Lasers and photoshop are not the same thing. ;)

Also, provide a link to what you found (even if you don't like them). We may be able to help with some more focus.

Peace,
dave

I took the photo. No Photoshop involved except I think I did sharpen it just a tad.
It's called "light painting". There's more if you follow the link back to my photostream on Flickr. (Flickr: Marsh Rabbit's Photostream'
Red pen was at Orbitlightshow.com (Lasers - OrbitLightShow.com - Red 30mW Kaleidoscope Laser Pen)
Also I didn't say I didn't like them I just said I don't want to do business with a company that has no contact info (except they did have an address.)
Cheers,
Konijn

Here's another attached photo. The squiggles are laser. The rest are colored lights.

Blue/Violet Green Red 2in1 Laser Pointer Star Projector - eBay (item 320431545698 end time Dec-02-09 20:23:19 PST)

Something like this? Yeah I know these are 5mW, but they are somewhat eye safe at 5mW.

That same seller also sells just the red one, but if you are into experimenting with light, get them all.

The output will be unpredictable until you receive the lasers. I got this little trio linked above. The red was 18mW. The green was 30mW. However, the violet was 80mW! No one knows what your set will be.

Peace,
dave

what you want are not kaleidoscopic sets, you better get random crystals like the ones on lumia wheels!

5mw is a bit small. I use 1mw when it's a single beam. Divide that into 100 beams from the diffraction grating and you can barely see it in the dark 5 feet away. I figure 30mw divided by 100 beams is quite safe. I tried a green 30 on myself first. It was bright but only momentarily, about as bright as the 1mw. Of course I did my research first before I attempted this. On the paintings I move fast and any accidental exposure would be very brief. Anyway they sell the things to kids for when they get drunk at parties. I had a laser from a police speed trap enter my eye once. Don't know how powerful it was but I definately noticed it. I've done hundreds of these photos and no model has complained yet.
Cheers,

Daguin, do you think a 80mw violet would be safe?
I hate to use PayPal and it's a Chinese supplier. If there's no other way to get one I'll probably bite the bullet but I would prefer to use a credit card, check or US Post Office money order and get them from a US supplier who at least has a phone or email.

80mW is NOT safe to shine on someone.

Buy whatever pointer(s) you want. PM me your shipping address. I will send you one of these tips. All you will need to do is attach it to the front of the laser. You can do it permanently, with something like epoxy, or temporarliy using something like a piece of rubber tubing the size of the laser body.

Peace,
dave

I have an extra tip from a broken laser and I have a green 30mw with a tip but thank you very much for the offer. That's what I meant when I tried the 30 on myself first before I used it on a model. Used the tip. Wanted to be absolutely sure it wouldn't harm them. Would never use it without the tip for photos. Too many reflective surfaces around.

Anyway I thought it would be easy to come here and get a decent 30mw red laser. I don't want to pop baloons, light matches or anything like that. I don't want a paypal account. I innitially joined this group because I like electronics, used to hold a Ham Radio ticket. Figured this was the place to get a nice red laser without dealing with Chinese or someone who won't even put their phone number on their site.
That's all there is to it.
If you have one you want to sell you can contact me: arabbit at earthlink dot net
If it's less than fifty bucks, decent quality (better than my green one I got for 19.95) and will hold a Kaleidoscope tip, I'll buy it.
Goodnight and thanks for the advise.
