Default WTB: mini-lathe

So I've always wanted one. I don't really know what i'm looking for.
I was considering something like this
Bolton 5" X 7" Mini Metal Mill Lathe Combo Brand New - eBay (item 380223186644 end time Aug-07-10 14:42:18 PDT)

Hoping to find a lathe/mill combo. I'm just assuming i'll need the mill at one point and would rather spend the extra couple hundred than have to shell out tons more for the mill alone.

I don't plan on doing anything too complex or big. Working with softer metals. if anyone has any suggestions, or know of anyone who is trying to sell theirs then let me know.

I am also selling my Walther PK380 - Black to help soften the blow (only used once, about 45 rounds fired). $300 - can ship to your nearest FFL licensed dealer
Product: PK380 - Black

Default Re: WTB: mini-lathe

That's pretty funny....I was just searching for mini metal lathes as well.....really finding pricing around $350-600 or so in price. I'm sure there could easily be another $200 in extra parts and cutter that would be needed. E-bay doesn't have much except what you find at online stores....Sears has a few available, but most seem to be wood lathes. Harbor Freight has some too. Perhaps some others here have better suggestions.

Try creigs list for your area. Seen a few around the $500 mark.

I've been looking for a mini metal lathe too. Harbor freight has great customer service and OK prices, but their lathes don't have mills.

Default Re: WTB: mini-lathe

yes, try harbor freight they have 2 mini lathes, one is like $399 and the next size up is like $500
Another good idea, is to look for local swap meets, or flee markets.

Mohrenberg, you should ask your shop guy. The guy you use to turn your heatsinks.
He might be able to help you find a used one?

ditching it.
It's an awesome gun in my opinion. If you love the walther P22, this is almost exactly like it, but with a caliber big enough for home defense

But i have only gone shooting once and it kind of seems like a waste just sitting in my dresser drawer.

I've already gotten like 5 replies in 1 day for it so i think it's as good as sold...

Now i need to find another $300 dollars.......this isn't easy since the fiance confiscates my paycheck lol.

maybe i can talk her into it.....although she knows i'll prob make some heatsinks and she doesn't want me associated with lasers in any way (understandably)

if only sears would sell lathe/mill combos! we have a sears card now after i explained that at the age of 25, i was simply too old to be pushing a lawn mower around in the middle of summer

You could start selling heatsinks to get back some of the cost of the lathe.

If it's payed for DON'T sell it you will regret it down the road. what is it costing you sitting there, would you sell your hammer just because you don't use it every day ?
Come on believe me it's going to be harder to get one later
Have a good day Mo !
BTW if you absolutly have to get rid of it I will trade you my lathe for it, my lathe is a 8 X12 and has tools to go with it, it's the $500.00 model from HF,,,, never mind the shipping will kill the deal.
Later...

Yeah i looked at those, but they are just lathes. Wouldn't i need a mill to drill into metal from the top?
although that $600 combo on ebay says 5x7, So does that mean the work area would be 7 inches max?

OH, found this one on craigslist for $300
they said it's never been used.

7" x 10" Precision Mini Lathe

someone give me some insight on if this is worth it?

I'd have to look into getting a mill later on then.....or just send everything to my old machinist for any extra work i'd need.

If you read the reviews it all looks fine. One person says spend the extra $50 for the larger one. Another says it has plastic gears that will need replaced after a few years.(Yikes!) The other of note says to get the 20% off coupon for this. (I have one from a current rolling stone magazine.)

Weee!

So i've got a lot of driving ahead of me on monday. Have to swing down south about 45 miles to sell the hand gun. Then it's 102 miles to go get the harbor freight lathe for $300. I'm assuming it's in great condition. Some old lady answered the phone, said it was brand new, her husband bought it and never used it.

Once i get it, then it's another 87 miles back home.....
I'm going to get some tools and bar stock ordered and hopefully i can have them by monday too.

I'm excited!
