I found a very expensive source for the heads. (No, I will NOT share) So yeah, I'm making them on a case by case basis. Very limited opportunity.

It doesn't help your reputability, making stupid uninformed posts like that (neither does the stalking you do in other threads). On the weblink YOU gave, for the laserbee distributor in Germany, the price is 269 Euros + 4,90 shipping. Add it up yourself.

Hey Doc...
* * * * * * * * *if you're going to quote what I posted.... quote all of it....

If you don't own a LaserBee I and you don't want to purchase a LaserBee I and are only
looking for the most expensive prices that you can find to Bash the LaserBee I product...
then you are biased... and need not reply...

What "Insaneware" sells the LaserBee I for in Germany is his business and does not
affect J.BAUER Electronics..... He adds on his expenses (duty/taxes/handling/profit...etc) what
ever they may be and offers it on his website.... His Forum price can't be that expensive... he
has sold over 15 LaserBee Is in the past 2 months...

I simply pointed "Traveller" there because of the proximity to him as a possible alternative...
As you can clearly see.... the LaserBee I is still less expensive to purchase from Canada...

LaserBee I from Germany to Austria= $339.00 US (info supplied by dr-ebert)
Laserbee I from Canada *to Austria = $276.98 US (info supplied by lasersbee)

Add it up yourself.....

Fact is...

- you brought up getting a Laserbee from a german distributor to save on shipping cost
- you falsely accused me of inventing a price which was just a click away
- to cover up you invented a theory of me wanting to "bash" the laserbee when I did nothing more than point out that your alternative wasn't one

So, you were dead wrong, no buts about it, and you're simply not upright enough to just admit it and be done. No matter, it's there for everyone to read.

Hi2all

Thanks for the support and suggestions from everyone!

Jerry, I have to say that you are pretty, ah, "straight forward" in your writing... *:-/ Trying to look at the bright side of things, at least we know you won't hide or veil your opinions... .

But to set things straight, I visited the DE distributor a while back when you PMed me the url. I did the math:

* * * *CA Ver DE Ver.
Laserbee $209 €269
Ship *$67 €7
Sub * * * * * **$276 * * €276
duties * * * * *$27.6
subtot * $303.6

VAT $60.72

Tot $ $364.32 $331.2

So in the end, buying it direct would cost me $30 more. Not to mention, EU law states that the DE distributor must guarantee the products they sell for a period of two years. But I did my homework before starting this thread. The point being both prices for a (non-deluxe) Laserbee I is more than I can afford atm.

$209 is a worthy price for such a worthy LPM and even with Int'l shipping, $276 would have been doable. But as I stated in my OP, if the vendor is not willing to lower the insured amount and/or mark the contents as "GIFT", $276 can become $364...

The shipping / Duties / VAT costs is the reason why I am looking for a used LPM and yes, a used LaserBee I would be great * Unfortunately I missed out on Tony's $175 "whale of a sale" by one hr / one PM... *:'(

Ken, I didn't know there would be more than the one or two Kenometers on the "market" * So I'm going to hunt down any threads on your baby but feel free to add a few urls to this thread! $300 and some shipping flexibility for a "contained" LPM is quite an attractive proposition *8-)

Pm me and we'll discuss #'s and possibilities. I'm more than willng to "state lower value" on customs forms. My builds are solid (not that the laserbee's aren't) and can withstand shipping to other country's. I've shipped ones to Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, and the U.K. without any issues.
I did have one damaged in shipping, but that was such an easy fix, that the individual was able to easily fix the issue.

I certainly hope so because first off, Ken is not an official company mass-producing stuff and secondly, what are you then, a Canadian lawyer specializing in U.S. law?

BTW on another topic... are you still convinced that there is no danger of shining Laser (150mW IIRC)

Hey Traveller...
* * * * * * * * * * * * I merely suggested that you check the prices + shipping from the German supplier
in case it was a cheaper solution.. I wasn't a certainty as The Doc seems to think...

We understand fully that there are other expenses involved... but we can't be aware of the Duties
and Taxes levied by foreign Governments... (you could also add the Gas and Time it may take to go
the post office and pick up the package to the total expenses).

We also understand that the purchase of a LaserBee I is not inexpensive compared to a PHR803T
sled or similar item... But it is much less expensive than the lab quality LPM we needed to purchase
to calibrate the LaserBee I.

There are other options available....

The Kenometer... (FYI...it is less expensive to ship internationally from the USA than from Canada)
The DIY LPM Gauge... eBay sometimes has a good bargain on a used LPM..
Even the LaserBee I without Data Logging (option available) comes up on eBay once in a while for
$169.99 US plus shipping..
We understand that perhaps this is not the time for you to get a LaserBee I...

BTW...
We ship the LaserBee I in a specially ordered Corrugated box that is larger than required so that there
is room to add plenty of styrofoam peanuts to protect the LaserBee I + Thermopile...
We have shipped the LaserBee I all over the world from the USA to Japan to Australia to England to
Italy to Brazil.... and the list goes on...
We have never had a LaserBee I show up damaged. (due to the extra care in packaging and materials)

Jerry

- you brought up getting a Laserbee from a german distributor to save on shipping cost
- you falsely accused me of inventing a price which was just a click away
- to cover up you invented a theory of me wanting to "bash" the laserbee when I did nothing more than point out that your alternative wasn't one

So, you were dead wrong, no buts about it, and you're simply not upright enough to just admit it and be done. No matter, it's there for everyone to read.
You are absolutely corrrect... you are perfect... I bow to you...
Now move on...

BTW on another topic... are you still convinced that there is no danger of shining Laser (150mW IIRC)
at planes while on final approach
... :-?

Thats sick.

Hi2all,

it was a difficult decision, considering the LPMs "on offer" are all very qualified - each for with their own strengths and weaknesses. I'm pleased to say that I'll be going with a Kenometer. the underlying reason(s) will be shared at review-time *

Thx to all for the input* *

*At least for the constructive input...
