got my first string of bad news it might coast a bit to get the samples. they don't mind sending them but they might not be worth it.
Still awaiting info on that 3 yr warranty. if it is indeed a full replacement of all defective leds upon next order that would be fine just means whoever got bad leds when we do a second order they will include replacements for the last to save on shipping because i doubt it would be cost effective to ship back the dead ones and then ship out new ones. But this is only an idea at the moment. i might just see if they would be willing to threw in extra to cover the possible loss.
But who knows these could be decent quality and this is all for not but rather be safe than sorry.

I say you let Flaminpyro get you some prices on some good leds. It wouldn't hurt anything to find out.

I'd prefer LEDs from a known good manufacturer like Nichia or Cree. Colours like red, green, blue and neutral white (UV also if possible, 385-415nm). Angle between 5 to 15 degrees (all colours must have the same angle). Package 5mm water-clear or clear tint.

Here is an interesting source btw:

okay so got a full quote including shipping.
ledquote.jpg

update
50$ on the shipping this comes out to about 0.0225 per led,
Warranty is full replacement added onto next order.
I do not care who or how you find leds if you got a cheaper or better source that wont break the bank please post all info
With this quote i know eBay sellers who can give me a better deal. so i am still trying but the more who help the better.

I would not mind seeing a price chart for NICHIA.

If we can get > 10,000 in one color, the price may fall further. Hopefully we can get like 10 people buying 1000 in each of the colors.

Heh, i'm slowly turning all the lights in my home in led lights ..... (very slowly :p)

I'm actually using Nichia leds, being precise, these ones

But i ensure that they was NOt cheap, when i buyed them, also buying 600 for each type :p

BTW, i also have some other leds from Nichia, like the red, green and blue oval ones, and from an old project (a "curing" dome for a dentist, for UV-reactive resins) i still have some of these ones

that, opposite to the "ebay types" ones, are really 375nm UV .....

Well, I get my LEDs here: http://ledshoppe.com/Product/led/LE1012.htm . Not a bad price for free shipping and only 500 LEDs. You can try contacting them for cheaper prices if you're buying in such bulk. I do have these LEDs on me, but I don't know if I have the time to try testing them as you say for quality.

I'm not really fussed with price. As long as they will last me 1000 hours, they will suffice. I'm only getting them here because I'm trying to help out the GB. So count me in for anything you pick!

Even if these are at "DX quality", these prices here are still about an order of magnitude better than what I could get through DX. Hopefully, these turn out okay and remain around the same price.

I am trying my very best to get a good quality product at a fair price.
But i repeat i would not mind if someone else tried too as i would be great to find better deals even if they are a bit more pricey but better quality.
But as a group we must decide on what we want out of them.

I haven't been able to find any other distributors with better prices, or at least anything that would differ from what you've found (brand, etc.). At these prices we could go for a round, see how they perform, and then buy some more later.

I'm totally new to LEDs, but this thread has inspired me. What is everyone mounting these things on in these massive quantities?
