Looking for a high quality, low power 1-5mw laser to be used for my chocolate lab's entertainment (she loves chasing the dot). I am tired of the cheap laser pens I buy locally or through dealextreme. Would prefer sturdy metal construction and LR44or AA or AAA battery use. I've never seen it before, but a on/off switch instead of a momentary button would also be great but not necessary. Would need shipping to an address in Nashville, TN, USA -- zip 37215.

Again, I'm not interested in any high power device but instead a harmless toy that my dog will enjoy. Please PM me if you have a laser that would fit my requirements or a recommendation for where to buy one.

Thanks for the suggestion of the laserglow. However, the duty cycle of 90 sec. on/20 sec. off wouldn't work for me. Any other ideas?

i would just go for a cheap chinese laser. the laser thing you would want is an over spec laser to play with your pet :p
my suggestion: LZBH - 532nm 30mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer
email them and tell them to lower the current, if you choose any other their lasers.
the large heatsink should make a duty cycle quite high :p especially at 5mw.

As you are sick of cheap laser pens..

I have found kensington wireless presentation pointers to be extremely robust and reliable. Yes, they are considerably more expensive, but they are multifunction and can be bought in-store or on many websites. You can also use it in a public place and claim you use it for presentations, not 'fun' ;).

You can get red/green ones and they are all 1mw so can point it anywhere and theres almost no risk of eye damage.

I have personally given this particular model heavy use, many drops etc over a year now and it's still good as new. Amazon.com: Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer: Electronics
