Default WTB - Green, waterproof, focusable. Unknown mW

Hey guys,

Been lurking these forums for a while now and finally got to the point where I'm ready to buy my first laser!
There is so much good info on here! Just can't seem to find what I'm looking for though so I hope someone can help me out...

Has to have/be:

Green
I'd like this easily seen. From what I've read, green is the most viewable right?

Anything between 5km to 10km view distance would be good
Basically I'm looking for something to point out hiking targets and other similar things as well as pointing out stars when we rest (after we have checked for aircraft..).
I don't need to burn anything but distance is important...

Waterproof
It WILL get rained on and waded through a few streams in my belt pouch.

Focus
I've a lot of different reasons for this.

What I'd like but don't necessarily need:

Rear click button
I just prefer this style.

AA or AAA batteries
I have heaps of AA and AAA Eneloops and would prefer not to have to buy new types and chargers.

Id like to keep the price under $100 if I can.

The main killer for me is... I'm in Australia. Dumb laws because of stupid kids.
Due to this, I'm pretty much stuck to buying second hand of someone that doesn't mind posting "flash lights".

If anyone has anything like what I'm looking for or can even just give me some advice, it would be very appreciated.

Well, only two big problems... one you're aware of - australian import laws. You can try skirting it as many companies will ship in two separate packages, but of course you will be breaking the law.

The other problem is with batteries. You could waterproof a laser, but it would be easier to simply get a waterproof one to begin with.

Very interesting. I don't want to hijack you thread but I have the same challenging in Norway. Due to some kids running around flashing airplanes and like the laws have been changed. So you won't be able to buy a quality laser within Norway and not import one. The only solution I can see is buying a DIY kit and then put it together myself. But there is so many tiny details that I am not sure what to look for. I don't want such a powerful laser as the Survival Laser, but Wil you got a list that fits me as well. Price tag is not so important.

Regarding the law, it wouldn't have been changed if it wasn't for those damn kids. So i'll break the law and its ok :-)

I'm totally fine with that. Our laws on laser pointers are ridiculous.

That's pretty much what I'm after, would love to find something a bit cheaper if I can. That's if they'll send it in 2 bits or as a "flash light"

+$5 for a battery, not a problem.

Do you know how far a 150mW will go?

Thanks heaps for the reply InfinitusEquitas, it helps a lot.

Invest in a power certificate as well, just to know what you're actually getting, it's worth the extra $2.

You should be able to see the beam clearly and as far as you need to at night, distance will not be an issue... especially in the middle of nowhere in the woods.

For star pointing 150mW is overkill, 50mW is even a little overkill for astronomy. 20-30mW is ideal when you don't have to contend with light pollution.

You may want to consider getting a newwish pen... try getting in touch with this guy: swimminsurfer256 although he's probably gonna be hard to reach for the next few days. Toss the pen in a ziploc bag and you're all set

I'm glad you said that, I kinda missed it before. I'll definitely get it.

There will be some light pollution occasionally but not often and pretty light anyway.

I had a look at the new wish pens, it's too thin. I'd say it will break pretty easily on my belt or in my pocket or pack.[/QUOTE]

I'm going to stick with the style of the first one you posted. It's almost exactly what I'm looking for, I'll just have a quick look for a better price.
If they can sent it in two parts, I'm set. I'm still going to chase a second hand one too.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

Contact Max: MaxLZR.

Aside from paying for shipping twice (or once, since shipping is included with them normally I think he'll he able to help you out.

Maybe ask him if he has 1mW stickers he could stick on the laser parts just in case.

wouldnt the two just counteract each other ? they see a 1mW sticker .. but a certificate stating ~150mW ? would raise some alarms in my eyes

To avoid embarrassing myself, MaxLZR has something to do with lazerer.com right?

1mW stickers, brilliant!! Lol, I totally didn't even think about that.

I doubt Australian customs would investigate it that far. It's doubtful they'll even notice it's not a torch but if they do, once they see a 1mW sticker that's their job done as far as they're concerned generally. I can't imagine anyone studying the sheet that much let alone even bother reading it at all.

Not really... I mean I didn't realize that I have to point this out but the certificate should go with the tailcap.

The 1mW sticker with the rest of the laser.

The shipping should be in two parts remember...
