Hello all, this is my first post here. I was searching the net for some info on lasers and came across this forum.

I am looking to purchase my first laser pointer, and figured I'd post here and try to buy a pre-owned laser.
I am looking for something either GREEN or VIOLET (purple).
I want to be able to see the beam, and I am not really worried about burning anything with it but it would be a plus if it can light some matches/paper.
I would love it to be either a small pocket sized pointer or a nice industrial looking pointer (not one that just looks like a pen).

Not sure what I am going to spend, but I would LOVE to keep it around $50 shipped in the USA.

Let me know what anyone has or if you can point me in the right direction.

After doing a little more research, I like the little "pocket mini" blue-ray I've seen...

Well for $50 your quite limited, but violet you won't be able to see the beam very well so for your first laser the coolness factor of a visible beam will come form a beam :)

Because of your low budget it would be perfect to look at dealextreme but they no longer ship to the US. So either checkout what people are selling on the forum, and when O-like and rayfoss are back up and running it will be worth checking out there site and maybe picking up like 50mW green from them? It won't burn unless it's over spec but the beam will be amazing if you havn't seen one before :)

Have fun and be safe, read up on the safety precautions such as owning goggles etc.

Well I will spend more than $50 if I have to, thats not a problem, just finding a good "FIRST" laser to have fun with is my main goal.

I really like the violet (blue-ray right?), but I've noticed the green lasers are more visible so I'd take either blu-ray or green.

so...whatcha got??

If you want the best beam, green laser is the best choice.

My 90 mW bluray is less visible than 5 mW green.

For a first time laser, a 5mw pointer will amaze you.

The plus is, many run over spec, so they make super nice looking beams.

best bet is to buy the ledshoppe.com 50mw green pen.
i know you said no pen but i just bought one, and it is phenominal.

I agree with photon. Buy a cheap 5mW greenie off ebay, Most of them are really about 30mW and you will be amazed with the beam. Start small and work your way up ;)

I wanted to stay away from eBay because a lot of the sellers are overseas, and I wanted to avoid that due to the time of shipping.
Secondly, they are all >5mW, for my first laser I want something a little stronger than what I can buy in the pet store.

I got a few PMs about lasers for sale, I will more than likely go with one of those.

ya i bought a 5mW blu-ray of ebay bout 6 months ago came with a star cap, when i finaly got to test it was puttin out 34mW and burns trash bags at point blank, maybee youd consider that, also bestofferbuy.com has a neat little green handheld 50mW(mine puts out 42mW) for 39 bux comes with cr2 batt and has a locking mechanism with little keys + its focusable so it burns rather well for its power. or if youd want somthing of higher quality there are ppl here on the forum who makes excellent lasers.

Only problem is bestofferbuy.com will not ship anything over 5mW to the USA.

My best bet is going to be to purchase one off a member here IN the USA.
Damn laser laws! :scowl:

UPDATE: Anyone in the USA that has something green that I can burn with (100-200mW) for $100 (give or take a few bucks), I have paypal ready to send.

WRONG!!! i live in md as stated under my user ID and have bought two lasers in the last 6 months and both shipped to me without any problems. DX are assholes but BOB just puts up that warning because the fda harasses them. as far as i know the havent changed there policy. if you are interested in it just try to buy it, add to cart, checkout and pay they will ship it in a few days(from china).

PS- BOB takes paypal so worst possible senerio if they did change policy is you get your money back...
