WTB Dead or cheap Laser Sight for a gun

I am looking to do a 'project', and I need a dead laser sight that is for a gun. Rail mount, ring mount, whatever - this is more of a 'proof of concept' than it is actual application, for now.

If you have one of these, or a dead host that is at leat 'water resistant', let me know! I'd LOVE to find a Spyder case that was dead... that'd be IDEAL. But 'good luck', right??

I'd rather buy someone else's junk than buy a 'good part' to take apart. PM me what you have and what you want for it, if you have anything.

My last option is to have someone machine something for me, custom... but man, I bet that'd COST! But I bet the results would be awesome!

E-mail a few companies such as NOVA , Dragonlasers, Optotronics or laserglow. they might sell you a broken laser.

I took a look at all of those mfrs, and they all have nice product, but nothing that is water resistant (like the spyder for example) which could be used outdoors in fairly wet conditions. I need to somehow make it at lest 'weather resistant'

I do need to contact Wicked to see if they would sell me a spyder case - but I have a feeling I know the answer... and I am guessing that if they did, it'd probably cost a small fortune

I am thinking that a gun-mount may be more weather resistant say than a simple 'pen laser' - but who knows. Most of that stuff comes from China, and well... many 'weather proof' items I have seen from China frankly, stink.

Ideally, I'd find a dead spyder. That's the 'ideal' - but man, I am thinking that may be a trick these days. Anyone know of any other manufacturer that makes a similar 'pen' (from a weather proof standpoint) to the spyder?

Thanks for the link. I took a look - but I am thinking it may be a little too small to fit all the guts inside. Maybe a little more 'chinsy' than I was looking for too.

I need the case I build in to be at least 'decent'.

My other thoughts were to maybe modify a flashlight to accept some greenie guts? I have seen flashlight/laser mounts that have both windage and elevation adjustments... If I could find a good pen host, I'd get one fo those mounts, a trigger switch, and viola!

A 'sample to play with'.

I too am looking for >20 mW lasers to mount on rifles. DX appears to have what I want for less than $50 but only plays paypal. Paypal is way too liberal to do tactical weapon parts.
So at the moment, getting laser gun sights to put new diodes in seems like a path I may use. I have diodes on hand & diodes coming, so where should I get sight housings with windage controls?

Why? If rifle scope & 200 yard laser agree on target, then scope is still "sighted in". First shot should be on target, without any loud "sighting in shots".

One trouble you may run into is that any of the decent sights I've seen that have easily adjustable windage and elevation have a non-standard module design, and the ones that have a standard-type module generally require tools and/or disassembly to adjust (hence the low price).

Here are a few pix to explain (this is a discontinued 40mW sight from Tactical Gear Depot) - note in pic 2 that the end of the module has been turned down to allow the use of a slip bushing that fits into the front of the sight itself, the cavity inside the front cap of the sight has a holder for the bushing that is slightly offset, giving you X and Y alignment capabilities by twisting the ring (the rear of the module has a similar setup that adjusts X and Y using the ring on the rear of the module) ... most of the cheaper sights I've seen just use allen wrench screws to adjust the module, and some of the real crappy ones even require you to take the module apart to adjust it (an obvious pain in the grapes to sight in).

The diameter of the turned down part is about 9mm, so an Aixiz would not fit in there without extensive modification (while you could actually mount it rearward and use the adjustment or focal ring as the front mounting point, the end result would be that anytime you adjusted windage or elevation, you would unfocus your laser!)

many sites such as DX, Kaidomain, etc sell just the rail mount for your own laser/light, but again, now you're looking at finding a nice sealed host, and you are totally on your own as to X and Y adjustment. The model of this one is the JBS-016, if you could find one available (they sold for like $88 with the mount, sight, 2 switches, battery, tools, etc) that would be a good bet, otherwise the new styly 018's are like $55-60 but it's up to you to decide if you are willing to tackle actually machining the module itself, etc etc.

nd finally, here's the inside of the frontpiece with the offset holder for the module and bushing:
