Build your own? Stonetek 808 IR diodes are only $10 and should be able to reach 200mw. Also, make sure you have the appropriate goggles...

Buy a Stonetek IR diode, Mount it into an Aixiz module, Solder a driver(set to 320ma) to the diode, power on and voila, you have 200mw of IR....

At 10 bucks a pop, I don't think you should worry about screwups...

Default Re: WTB: Cheap IR Laser  200mW's +

Those wavelengths are visible, especially loser to 700nm. Even 200mW of 808nm looks like 1mW of red, so the project may not go as planned if it is visible. I suggest going with 980nm, it's really cheap and invisible.

Edit: Yeah to focus it just find the distance something starts smoking at and remember that for your demonstration.

I've had success collimating my IR diode with a simple Aixiz acrylic lens. You could use a camera to "view" the beam and focus normally or just adjust until you have a smaller dot on the object...

As suggested, get the appropriate safety goggles since IR can burn your retinas without you knowing it..

Unfortunately, it's invisible to most cameras too. Most cameras tend to cut out around the 870nm range although some can still see it..

Just fix it in place on something, then make a focal point between the diode and say some wood. Then mark where the focal point is on the wood.

As styropyro said, that will be visible... not to mention, it is dangerous in uncontrolled areas.

If you decide to enclose it and use the 780nm laser diodes, look here:

For 980nm try eBay, I think Heruur sells them pretty cheap IIRC.

I'm impressed how much you link to different items. It seems you promote DX and Stonetek in every single one of your posts (which is cool)

^ Yeah I like Stonetek. Senkat (Greg stoner) is a good person. But where did he go?

DX is just the cheapest! Even though it can take up to a month to get your stuff, there prices can't be beat! *

[edit]It looks like he isn't selling those IR diodes anymore. :-/[/edit]
