Hey guys,
I have had a few of the 5mW lasers and want to step it up to something more powerful. I don't want to have to assemble it, I would like one that is ready to go. I would prefer a 1w+, but it must be able to burn... (light matches and all that fun stuff :p)
Let me know what you have, not looking to spend a fortune. Any advice would also be appreciated.

I think you shouldn't go for a 1W laser after 5mW. That's a 200x as powerful. Aka, imagine what would happen if you got hit by 200 5mW lasers in the eye. You'd be blinded.
If you just want to burn, a 200mW red will do it for you. Hell even a 100mW 405nm would be suitable.
Do what you will, but that's just my suggestion.

Why is this every new members first post?

Because they are usually immature kids who get excited about burning things with light and want to show off to their friends. Most of us have been there and done that though, so it's not too bad. At least they are being honest about what they really want out of this forum.

From your question I can see you have not read
anything on the Forum and that you have no clue
as to the POWER of a 1 Watt Laser...

and don't forget to buy appropriate Laser Safety
Goggles/Glasses. They are less expensive than
a special folding White Cane or Seeing Eye Dog....

really?
yes im a 12 year old who just wants to light shit on fire. Keep to yourself if you can't post anything thats going to be constructive.

No, I'm 23 years old, and my 5mW was just an introduction to lasers for me because it was cheap. I want to step up to something a little better before I get too into it and build my own. Why do I want it to be able to burn stuff? why do you want one that can burn stuff? Just because you've been a member on this forum longer than I have that makes you a more responsible adult?
Once again, keep to yourself if your just going to judge and be a douche.

And the reason this is usually a persons first post, is because I came here thinking you guys were educated and could give me some advice or a good deal on one of your old "hand me downs".

Thank you to those who actually helped in some way.

I clearly said that most of you are immature kids, so I never judged you personally so don't take it out on me. It's just that we see similar posts all the time and all we want to do is educate you guys about the dangers of lasers for your own safety as well as the well being of others around you.

fair enough. I can totally understand where your coming from as the same happens on the car forums I am a part of. I just hate getting flamed right off the bat like that. But I appreciate the advice, I guess I will just go to a 200mW and get a pair of goggles.
Does anyone know of a site that sells legit 200mW for a decent price? if goggles are included that would be awesome

There are tons of sites to choose from: rayfoss, o-like, lazerer, jetlasers etc...
The ones I listed will be on spec if not over spec and most if not all of them sell safety glasses as well. There are other brands of higher quality, but I did not mention them because you are asking for a decent price. Any of the ones mentioned above should satisfy your needs.

www.rayfoss.com Item # RF660-200mw-SWT

is something like this going to be worth $50? enough to have some fun and experiment with? Seems cheap for a 200mW considering others are $150++

Yea its enough to have fun and experiment with it .. but it is also dangerous to give you some problems..
And if you didn't noticed , the wavelength of that laser is 660nm (red light)
