Default WTB: blue laser for gift (groomsmen)

I am looking to get a laser for a groomsman's gift for my wedding coming up. Long story short is that it's a really hard guy to buy for (has everything) and I want something unique. I'll have to give it to him before we leave (or when we get back) though because my fiance and I are getting married in Italy and I dont want to have any problems with customs etc.

Looking for a blue laser, with a decent amount of power, but not TOO expensive. Something that will light matches, but tape, or more than that.
Minor assembly/soldering etc on my end would not be a problem. I just dont have time right (leaving in 3 weeks, still lots to do) now to read up on a whole bunch of stuff of what I need and shop around to get it all.

Not sure if it is a problem with shipping/restrictions, but I live in Canada

If anyone has some offers or wants to build something for me, drop me a line, please let me know.

Thanks

If your planning on something of that power I would highly suggest getting him some protective glasses as well unless he has some. Would hate to be the guy with everything except his own eyesight.

Blue as in 405nm (violet) or 445nm(blue)?

Both are affordable now.

I wouln"t recommend the WL Artic for a first laser, it might be too much power.

He has quite a few other lasers (violet, green, red etc etc) and isn't your run of the mill 'guy' (he's 30ish, owns a large construction company and responsible so I'm not worried about something with too much power.
445nm would be preferred.

When you say "not TOO expensive", what do you mean? Your expensive may be different than mine.

I would look at this post as far as glasses go. 445nm Goggles

The goggles listed seem cheap but have a high shipping cost.

As far as power goes as long as he is responsible and has glasses and isn't playing "burn the neighbor kids" i'm not too worried about the power. I'm going to guess that if someone is willing to sell you a build its going to be 200-500mw.

good point. it's relevant
the WL artic at $200 is a really good price for how powerful it is.
I wouldnt want to go TOO much more than that. 100-200 sounds good, as long as the product is as well.

Default Re: WTB: blue laser for gift (groomsmen)

There are a lot of guys on here who will build lasers for money. Right now I can only think of flaminpyro (sorry to the others). I'm sure many of the vets can help.

Jayrob sells a lot of kits that will fit the 445nm/405nm/655nm diodes. The best kit for the 445nm if it's going to be at a higher power (1W) would be Jayrob's 18650. 18650 is the type of battery the host uses. Plus Jay really tailored the kit around the 445nm after the came out, adding copper direct-press heatsinks, and Aixiz glass lens adapters (probably the best lens at this point. With the "hot option", Jay can solder and pretty much assemble everything in the kit for you.

The 445nm diodes themselves are pretty cheap, around $35-50 shipped now.
