I'm new to this whole laser thing, so I don't have a pile of diodes scavenged from drives yet. ;)

I'm looking for laser diodes in the 50-100mW range, preferably near 90mW. 780nm - 940nm, preferably at the lower end. 3.5mm or 3.8mm would be ideal, but I understand those are not a normal size, so I'm also looking for 5.6mm. Most importantly, I need to be able to modulate them at ~50MHz, so something scavenged from a fast CD drive would be ideal.

This is probably a strange (and perhaps impossible) set of requirements to have, but I'm hoping someone out there has diodes like this. I'm looking for something to use as a drop in replacement for the red diode in a SHOWWX projector. It makes it more difficult that I have no idea what the red diode is, just that it is 3.8mm diameter and around 90mW.

I have read somewhere on here that someone extracted a 3.6mm 780nm. So why do you want to put an ir diode into the projector? make an 'invisible' picture?

I have 5.6mm 780nm if your interested.

Thanks for the info about the 3.6mm.

I found a CD-RW drive that I scavenged what I assume is a 780nm out of, so until I burn that one out, I'm set on 5.6mm.

Edit: Forgot to describe what my intentions are. My plan is to do invisible structured light scanning with a SHOWWX. I'm going to have the scan pattern projected in infrared while the remaining green and blue lasers in the projector show visible images. The idea is that I can scan and track objects and project onto them in real time with a single projector and an infrared camera.
