I am looking for a 200mw laser for about $50 if possible. I want it to be a portable one, could even be a nice home made one.

Everyone wants a cheap, high power laser. No one even cares about quality, as long as it can burn stuff (i'm guessing).

Why do people want a dangerous laser build to the lowest possible standards, full of cheap, untested parts that will probably fail after a short time?

A cheap laser isn't so cheap when it breaks and you have to buy a new one.

If all you're interested in is burning things (and I can't think of any other reason why most people want a laser more than 10mw) then use a lighter, it's faster, easier and WAY cheaper :-D

Try here luck45 -

Focusing Laser Host with Matching High Power Red Laser Diode Driver - Detailed item view - OdicForce Lasers Online Shop

Add to this the LPC-815 sled diode from teh same place, (these are available from many forum members but at least it'll arrive at the same time as the rest of the kit.)

All instructions are included with this kit. You just need a few assembly skills and tools and you're away. Check out the guides in my sig for more clues and go your own way to build a laser instead of buying one.

Don't listen to MojoLA, he's just trying to push buttons, and more and more people are realising it.

Good luck.

Morgan, why do you continue to make things personal with me? If you don't like my point of view either debate it or go home, it's kinda sad that you feel the need to follow me around on here and debunk my intentions.

All anyone has to do is look at my posts and see I'm serious about the hobby and do my best to contribute.

I also am very outspoken and choose to question bullshit and idiocy when I see it. I am truly sorry that it offends you and you have a problem handling points of view that don't match your own.

Try getting out of the house. I have noticed a connection on here between users' fragile egos and the number of posts they have. People like you who have so many posts they clearly don't have much of a life outside the forum also tend to be the ones who lash out.

Let's see, you have how many posts... Oh dear. Therapy might help.

Good luck,

Luck, Ray Foss is known for cheap lasers, not necessarily good ones.

Maybe you can tell us why 200mw is the magic number?

If you are really going to insist on high power but cheap, you stand a better chance at getting a quality used laser in the "buy/sell/trade" forum here. People are always buying new lasers, which means they are always trying to sell their older ones! It also means you'll be getting a laser that has been used enough to know that it works and isn't going to die a week after you get it.

And you'll most likey get something worth twice as much new.

Check it out! I got my first high power laser used from someone here and it works great.

Personally, I'd be happy to buy ALL my lasers second hand. Much better value and with the wildly inconsistent quality we get out of China, I'm glad to know it works.

Besides, most of the used lasers are "barely" used. People excitedly buy the newest and coolest laser, burn a few things, stare at the beam for a week or two then stick it in a drawer until something new comes along!

200mw is the lowest I want to go just because its my 2nd laser the first one was only 5mw and I just want something with more power, can be seen farther and burning stuff is a plus
