WTB: 20 - 30 mW Argon Laser system

I am looking to purchase a single line, 488 nm, air cooled Argon laser system producing 20 - 30 mW. I am keeping my eye on ebay, but have issues buying an untested head.

Sorry. Can you tell I am new at this? I am in TX. In terms of price, I have just started looking and am using prices on ebay as a rough guide. I would like to pay on the order of $500 or so for the head and PSU.

Notes on ebay: there are currently a number of JDSU 2114P units for <$100 used. Almost sounds too inexpensive...

Depending on the price you quote Hakzaw, I may want to pick up the other one....just got a new paycheck in and I really want to pick up a gas laser.

Well, I don't want to lose Ken on some money, but $500 is a LOT to pay. Then again, I don't know single line vs. multi-line for cost, but I've seen multi-line on sale here plenty of times for around $150+

I would posit that your memory is not accurate with this. If you are talking about a laser and PSU $150 would be less than 1/2 what a "normal" ML laser would sell for here. Step out to eBay or a salvage company and the price rises even more.

You might get a lower powered SL for the $150 range.

I will grant that sometimes someone just needs some quick cash and will sell at lower, but it is NOT the "norm." "Bottom line" for a working ML from me (when I want some ready cash or am being "nice" to someone) is ~$350, plus shipping.

I've been here for a fairly long time and have sold a fair number of argon lasers both here and through eBay. I know the difference between an ML and an SL. I even know VL, GL, and BL

I have seven working units on hand now. Gas lasers kind of dropped by the wayside during the hype surrounding the Arctic. The rest of the hobby is really just beginning to come back now.

Thanks for the guidance guys! I looked back through a number of the older threads and on ebay to come up with the $500... perhaps it is a tad high but when shipping is included it seems to be in the ballpark.

I have good news and great news for both of you-et al-I am trying to throw together a POP_UP Mini STEXLEM on Nov 13/14th in Freeport- got a warehouse lined up today and two of the 'Big Guys' from Pl are comimg to town and bringng full color projectors to do a 'free' show for us! These guys are true pros and you will really enjoy meeting them and seeing thier machines-- I will invite others too including Dr Chuck-owner of Aixiz lasers and some of the PL/LPF members from Austin amd DFW but even if none of them can make it -- we still have 300EVIL and Displaser!!!! We will have a swap meet( I will have two complete SL argons for sale and you can see them both in action) and free food and beer at the Festival of Lights in Lake Jackson-- compliments on my BBQ team-- there is a cheap motel walking distance and I will talk to the owner soon to see about a cheap rate for a few rooms.


I got the warehouse for 150$ and will accept any donations to help pay for it-(or not)- I will start a thread on this in General section and one over at PL too-- tell your friends invite anybody that is willing to sign a waiver-- all are welcome- It may be an all-nighter- bring stuff to sell or trade-- knivers and LED freaks are welcome too. Pets allowed. Crash in the warehouse on your air mattress-- Big fenced in parking lot--

I will have some red HeNes to sell and other items of interest. If it works there may be a bigger one at the same venue next fall. We have three small foggers- tables and chairs- and a small sound system already -- PM me if you have stuff to bring that we may need. Post in the thread what you are bringing to sell/trade. Look for POP-UP LEM in S. Texas.

Len, that sounds like a blast; count us in. I will probably have a small carload of laser lovers... including in hs-aged son. Please let me know Argon price and power when you get a chance.

Will do- a waiver will be required to be signed for all attending-- I will check on the cost of a room a few blocks from the warehouse in case you want to stay over- 90% chance this is going to happen. I will have all my argons there either to see or buy. You have first options.
