Default Very Special Insulated Dual Diode Housing

this is a custom made by myself insulated dual diode housing.

fitted with two blank normal aixiz diode housing so you can fit any 5.6mm diode of your liking.

the aixiz housings are set in (blue stuff) thermal bonding paste, in a 10mm by 18mm by 36mm aluminium block. so in english both diodes are fully heat sinked.

tomorrow i will cut the two off, as you can see from the below pics its currently still attached to the alum block. i will also tap a m2 hole in the bottom for mounting and provide a m2 screw.

if needed i can also provide the springs and normal aixiz plastic lens to go with the aixiz housing.

encase anyone is wondering what the purpose of this setup is, red diodes are case sentitave. which means power two up touch them together and pop, your diodes have blown. this setup will allow you to mount two diodes, red or blu-ray in the same block, fully heat sinked and combine them for double the power, without blowing the diodes, as each aixiz case is insulated by thermal bonding paste.

open to any reasonaly offer.

this is how the end result should look with two working diodes

yes would make a perfect setup for a labby.

but it would seem there is not much interest

i would accept 15 for it.

that may seem a bit steep, but its a one off and you wont find anymore of these.

the materials to make this are nothing but time.... lots.

indeed they are slightly off but it makes no odds.

when one beam hits the mirror and gets bounced at 90 degrees you just adjust the angle higher. that way when it hits the cube its the same height as the other beam.

this is how i set one up

use two adjustable mirror mounts and slightly height differences dont matter

and my finger to show how big it isnt

Thats truly ingenuitive!

I'd like to see you make a more "aligned" version, that doesnt need tacky blue stuff, and have two set screws, as you do now, but make it so they are perfectly aligned height wise, so the beams will be at exactly (or damn close) to the same level in height. that way it would be VERY easy to create a double blu-ray 8x build, and achieve 700ish mW's in theory, maybe it has been done before, im not sure, havent stumbled accrost it if it has.

I'd be interested in one for combining two high power blu-ray diodes, maybe two GGW 6x's and see if i can get them to output over 400mW's after glass possibly, i highly doubt i'd get to 400 without killing them though, i think with two 405-G1 lenses though, it could do some damage!

If one WERE to put two BDR-203 8x diodes in there WITH 405-G1 lenses, and run them at 325mA each, i bet you could get close to 800mW's after it passes through all the optics used (would be a good idea to use low-loss turning mirrors, and cubes and such) not too sure where to get those, CNI maybe?

But awsome idea man, i mean it may be a simple idea yes, but i havent seen many people set out to do it. and it looks like in that first picture, you could EASILY set this up for 5+ modules in a row! and you could start a cheap project using cheap PHR diodes, and see what kind of output you can get after optics! oh man, this interests me a whole lot!

What would you charge for one of those long aluminum bricks with THREE 12mm (or a lil less for tension) holes in it to fit THREE aixiz heads. I'd want them to work like a normal labby though, im not worried about heat buildup, so i dont need the extra space for the blue gunk.

Think you could pull that off for me? I'd go for a 5 hole version, but i think 3 8x diodes is enough lol. maybe i should ask you for a 5 hole version, as i can always add more down the road empty slots wont interfere with the 3 that i want to put in right away. the last hole might even serve as an exit hole of some sort i think im brewing up a few ideas for a real small, high powered laser

Let me know if you think it can be done, and if your willing to do it fastest way to get at me is PM, but you should also post your response here so others can see it as well.

Thanks in advance,

Tyler - Dark Lasers

your missing something here. the tacky blue stuff as you call it is thermal heat sink compound, its expensive stuff. 15 for a small amount.

red diode are case sensetive, so touch two together and they will most likely blow. or have more than one in a alum block and you cant adjust each diodes power as they are all touching. the thermal heat sink compund insulates each diode, so it is not touching anything else. this means you dont have to worry about static and touching the alum block and you can also adjust the power of each diode seperatly.

so there is a very good reason for the tacky blue stuff.

also as ive said the height difference isnt an issue as using an adjustable mirror mount to correct the height before it hits the cube.

if you keep watching the buy section you will shortly see a 400mw 405nm laser for sale. it will have CW, TTL and analogue modultation.

Default Re: Very Special Insulated Dual Diode Housing

It looks like Darkarmyofone wants to use blu-ray diodes, which are case neutral. As long as you don't connect the case to anything, the diodes are already electrically isolated, which is why he doesn't need the isolating blue stuff.
