I have a bunch of parts I will be listing in this thread. I will add to the list of
items as I get some pics taken, so check back for updates..

First I have 808nm LD's that have been tested with 532 crystal sets and are
suitable for such use. I have not tested them on a spectrometer, but have found
that they work well for DIY DPSS.

These are not the same LD's that have been floating on ebay which are off-spec.
These also output 1W no problem. These particular diodes where last setup in a 'burn-in'
cabinet and are all tested to be in working order.

For an extra 2$ I can remove the 'can' for any members seeking to make a DIY DPSS
laser. I recommend this option for those who need an open can and dont have the proper tool for it. The 'can-opener' I use was made for this to cut as cleanly as possible.
These are unmounted diodes only.

9mm 808nm 1W-1.2W LD's 20$ each. Buy 5 and get 1 free.

Pre-tested in a DPSS test jig..

--------------------------------------------

Next up are these high current variable resistors. These are rated 6.8ohm
and 25W. They are ideal for DIY current sources or whatever project requiring a lot
of current.

These are Russian surplus and well made. Price is 25$ ea or 2 for 40$ or 5 for 100$

Will be adding more as I go through what I need an dont need. The prices do not include shipping.
Under 1lb is 8$ shipped in boxes not bubble mailers..

Thanks for looking and check back soon

What are the dimensions of the 6.8 Ohm pots...
Diameter
Body length
Shaft length

The body of them are ceramic, 35mm dia x 38mm long and the shaft
is another 30mm. So total length is 68mm long, shaft dia 5.92mm.

Forgive my ignorance but that beam looks green...I would not expect an 808nm to look green. Following along with you comments about DPSS...is this some method to make a 808 into a green lower wavelength laser? I have done some limited reading and understand that some green lasers start with a higher wavelength laser and use special optics to change it to a green wavelength..or maybe I am just not understanding what I read. If it is possible to do something like this I was wondering if you could point me to some additional reading on this subject. Maybe I am just completely off base here as well, if so, please let me know...

He tests them in a DPSS rig, that means he pumps it with 808nm, it then gets turned into 1064nm and halved into 532nm (green) ;)

Doing a little research on the forum (or Google) on how DPSS Lasers
actually work you would have learned that to produce Green 532nm
you will first require a pump Laser diode of 808nm....

Yes anyone in the room will need laser safety glasses, this could get expensive compared to the cost of the laser

Oh we all have goggles. safety is number one. So,back to the question, for around 300 bucks, whsts the most powerful (burning wise) laser someon
e could make me? Also how long to make?

well first you all already have goggles but no laser?
your a teacher and cant spell?
your last sentence is a fragment because it contains no subject?

forgive me if im way off but something smells very fishy

^^^ Gotta agree... the grammar... spelling and structure suck for a teacher.

What wavelengths do your ~30 pair (assuming there are ~30 kids in your class)
pair of Laser Safety Googles cover and at what OD....

actually im on my blackberry and i wasnt really predicting that the guys on a laser forum would get so ecstatic about a simple question. i want an answer, not a lecture. btw, we have goggles for lab experiments. so, i can just go to another forum, or i get an answer. simple as that.

um safety glasses have to be made specifically for the laser you use (wavelength and power)

try photonlexicon.com they are way nicer than us :eg:
