Default USB Portable Powerful 12W Custom LPM

Today I gonna promote a fine laser power meters in my signature which created by my friend who has been improving it since he made his first one a year ago. And now it's finally good to release publicly though it will not be the final version but he sold 10 units already in our laser community so it's time to let me present it here on laserpointerforums also. A lot of techniques and new materials being used to build this LPM, some of the methods may not even discovered and being used here on LPF.

Calibrated by the Ophir Nova LPM:

11.3W Test Video:

Specifications
Power Supply: USB
Sensor: Thermopile
Response Time: ~10 seconds (90%)
Response Time: ~15 seconds (95%)
Sensor Cable Length: Customizable
Power Range: 1mW to 12W(10W MAX with LED display) (20W with multimeters but we can't make sure its accuracy >12W)
Auto Zeroing
Resolution: 100uw
Able to read <10mw.

They can go more than 10W but our test only goes up to 12W only because the ophir can't handle such output.

There are two display methods(you need to turn the swicthes on the back first): the normal LED display or multimeter display(1mv = 10mW).

The thermopile sensor don't need to be powered up and able to read the output precisely, you can connect it to any display device you want.

It is calibrated by a Ophir LPM to ensure correct readings.

The production will be 2 weeks and he will only start making when the order quantity is enough.

$85 for now as for presale, the price is fixed for now and after the first round of production it will be back to normal or higher with more functions coming in the futrue.

pm me or comment here to let me know you are in!

Asking for $120 each at this moment.
Huh? Why is it priced so high? It's a no-name product, with no track record, that doesn't look terribly great, yet it's $20 more expensive than the Radiant?

Also, I'm calling BS on the 12W rating. Maybe I'm too sceptical, but I don't believe that little thermopile can handle 12W.

I feel that $120 is totally fair and I support new innovators that put their time into making each one as long as there's a support warranty that's reasonable . As a builder , designer and seller of products in another industry, I understand early models will cost a little more than after the company gets going. One can't come out of the gate selling just to be able to clear and break even. Especially when it isn't mass produced yet. Because of these reasons , I do not find the $20 being something to throw my hands up to, quite the contrary , I welcome the price . Thank you for making it in am industry that product-wise has no competition . I support this entry into this market and I look at buying this lpm as a way of supporting a new business .

Gotta agree with RHD on that 12W rating. TEC's produce a potential voltage based on the temperature difference of the two sides, as the heat sink rises in temperature up the readings will skew.

I just provided the video, Testing 4x445nm lasers.

After the test its showing -18mw which means the error is only 18mw when measuring 11W

Thanks for the video, what is it calibrated against? if it isn't a NIST traceable LPM, then it ain't worth a hill o beans is it ?

ARG will chirp in as this is one of his fields of expertise.

He calibrated this LPM with the Ophir NOVA LPM which is NIST traceable standard.

Default Re: USB Portable Powerful 12W Custom LPM

Those look like perfectly acceptable margins to me.
I'm with the camp that welcomes a new product of a device type that has very few entries into the marketplace. Competition drives innovation!

Also, the X4 was a no name LPM that didn't look so good at one time, so that's just not even a fair claim. As far as the statement about it costing more than the X4...that may be, but the X4 is out of production and can't be had unless you buy used. And not only that, but since we are comparing it to the X4, this new entry does NEARLY ONE QUARTER OF THE X4's TIME TO 95%, and almost 4X the maximum capacity! Those two points alone are worth much more than the extra twenty bucks, IMHO!

The market will dictate whether or not his price is out of line, not one or two individuals. Only time will tell.

Good luck to your friend Podo!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not beating up on Podo, nearly every person, myself included, welcomes new products & innovations. Hell, guys like Trevor & ARG even developed & released completely free LPM third party software to go with the new LPM's.

Peregrine - The Free, Open Source LPM Interface

When someone comes along and offers a product with, what at first glance, appear to be enthusiastic specs, the "community" normally starts asking questions. And to Podo's credit, he's addressing the members concerns calmly & promptly.
