Haks got 4 Kongs and one of those chargers coming my way
Will say that I tend to keep all my batts fully charged using a large assortment of chargers and I NEVER leave the room they are in other than a bathroom break. Had one of the cheapos that came with something start to smoke (luckily not the battery).
Have put off doing any official testing on my 3.5W unit until I get the Kongs. When the first owner tested the unit he used a couple 18650s and got 3.19W but the second owner hit over 3.5W with 26650s. Have 3 sets of the Panasonic 18650PD cells (new) that are supposedly rated for 10amp draw so other than run time I'm expecting them to do as well as the Kongs (can't see a reson why they wouldn't). Also intend to run it off my variable DC power supply and see what happens with no voltage sag.
Never had the need for 26650 until now so it will be nice to have a couple sets besides for a good charger to go with them. Only thing I'm slightly concerned about is the maker said that he tried a really high capacity cell and it was slightly too big to fit the tube. Hoping that isn't the case with these. Even if it is, I'll still have some nice cells and charger from my friend Len so it's all good

I know very well about 26650s that are a tight fit..
MY advice- NEVER FORCE- here is what happned to me: :-(

I got one from Lighthound $12.99 plus tax
IRRC
it had a paper lable attached. I had to push a little to get it inside the tube.

THAT should have been my 'sign' .

once in there the vacuum created made getting it back out nearly impossibe.

I spent a few hours trying many ways- how could i get a grip on that battery?
I tried warming up the tube with a blow dryer- I tried tapping the open end on a cussioned surface( to avoid damage) that battery was NOT coming out- I tried cooling the outside with ice- still no luck.

Then.. DUH.. i tried removing the battery tube and after making a homemade 'strap' wrench I was able to get the tube off and the battery then could be removed by simply pushing on it.
I tore up the top of the battery some but found that with the paper label removed it was easier to remove w/o taking the laser apart.


ALSO protected cells are just a tiny bit longer- so that can be a small issue.
in some lasers a spacer is needed when using 'flat tops' or there is a gap when using 'button tops' I have been using a magnet as a spacer but recently got some good advice about potential danger running current thru a magnet- that was something I had never heard--

so NEVER force a battery.. If its a tight fit consider some way around that-maybe a little silicon spray on the battery would help-- The Gold KingKongs have no paper label & work fine with all JLs-there are all flat toppers.

I think I can do that--
The reason spacers are sometimes needed is due to the very small diff. in sizes between protected and unprotected Li-Ions.

I had no idea that running current thru a magnet could be a bad idea-
i DID know you never want anything that shorts the battery to the host.

SO ideally I guess what would be safer is a iron or copper spacer that had the edges protected by something like plastic- this would make a 'spacer' that is much safer to use/ making it impossible to short the battery..
