Oh man. Those HeCd's. Amazing. I didn't know anyone on the forum had one in working condition.

Where did you get them from originally? I'm curious to know where you acquired such a rarity.

A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted one. :p

I went through eBay and several surplus equipment dealers that I frequent

I worked through several thousand dollars of broken and non-operational lasers and PSU's to get these three working lasers :cryyy:

After a time, it became a quest :tinfoil:

These three and an extra PSU are the result of that quest

Seems that way. They're fun to use but quite fragile. I'd buy one but they're expensive and I don't have much use for one. I'd be buying it just to have it later. Peace to whoever gets them...they're quite a keepsake/conversation piece. :beer:

Yeah. HeCd's are definitely for the "collector"
This is especially true if you collect gas ;)

I'm not sure if there is any remaining commercial application for HeCd's
Plus HeCd's are MUCH more particular about maintenance burns

That is one of the main reasons that I decided I needed one when I did

Indeed. I like their output...some are quite unique...but 90% of them are big and are quite the picky troublemakers. Few of them I find are worth keeping other than for collector's sake. and they don't last if they're not used frequently. Glad to see a few are still working...quite nestalgic. the only way I could get one though right now is by trade...and I doubt I have anything that'd interest you :p

There must be a need..somewhere. Otherwise, Kimmon wouldn't get away with selling their CHEAPEST model for $14K!

I always giggle when someone asks me why I charge "so much" for my gas lasers ;)

My thoughts exactly, buying the argon just broke my wallet! but I had to have it!

BTW Dave...just got it today....and it's quite the beast! :drool:

tested it to check it from shipping (after digging through what felt like 1km of packing bubbles) It's running fine, though I don't have time to 'play' with it at the moment. :whistle:

I'm looking to get back into the swing of things after my move across the pond.

but yes, I'm doing well - hope things are going well at your end too.

And yes, seems where ever I go it always costs a fortune to ship things to me. I may need to save up a couple of pay checks and then see what you have, having a vehicle and an apartment doesn't leave much room for a laser budget. :(

Dave, I actually am still interested in one of the HeCds, but I really should arrange some way to drive out there and put the dang thing in my car... Had plans for a CA trip but then it didn't work out. I could change that after the holidays or send an emissary.
