Why is a 400mW pen + goggles cheaper than a 150mW pen?

The 400mW pen lasers he is offering are 808nm IR lasers ( a lot of burning power ) whilst the 150mW pens are 532nm. IR lasers are less expensive than the more complex green lasers.

Sorry about that, the title has been revised.

The >150mW unit is a 532nm greenie of the time-honored CNI black/gold build. Normally getting a reliable pen-form greenie over 120mW or so was quite difficult and a >150mW was unheard of. These >150mWs are pretty much pushing the limits of what greenies can do. They are great all-around lasers as they combine insane beam visibility with a good amount of burning power.

The 808nm lasers are nearly invisible and with horrible beam specs. However, they have a focus ~5inches from aperture and that's where they're meant to be used. There, you harness the focused burning power of 400-500mW in a pen-sized unit. These are the strongest pen-form burners on the market that I know of.

Well, I'm hoping to at least accept a few preorders before going through with everything. So far I haven't had any takers in the hours since I posted this but I'd like to get the order ready and placed soon after people start getting in. I don't have a solid cut-off date in mind but I'm hoping before the new year at least.

I am seriously thinking about this. I would want an IR unit. My brain says save for a blue. My heart says 450mW!! GO! I will see if I can scrape funds together, this is something I dont really wanna miss out on. I will probs get in touch with you towards new year pseudo.
It would be nice to own such a laser.

are they the exact same as one would expect from a CNI pen cept with more power
or are the specs a bit worse

Same pen, same pump (well, CNI was being a bit secretive about the pump but they said <700mA draw which is consistent with the old 500mW pumps), better crystals.

Other than output, these should be the same as any other CNI black/gold pen except a shorter duty cycle is recommended. (I guess the higher efficiency crystal is less tolerant to heat)

Beam specs should match any other CNI black/gold. IE very tight beam with acceptable (but nothing to brag about) divergence.

This makes me wonder if the 150mw new CNI laser is what is being put in the new Wicked Laser Elite, and Wicked is just repackaging it in their own chasis and charging an extra $300 for their silver chasis. any thoughts on this possibility?
