I thought I might get a little more interest if I gave this it's own thread.

I'm putting my argon up for sale, I only use it once a month anyway so hopefully someone else can get more use of this. It's a really nice laser, a Uniphase 2214-40MLA. It's in excellent shape, hardly a scratch on it (if any.) The cooling fins inside are clear and clean, it really doesn't look like it saw much use.

The power supply is matched for this laser, it's a 2214P-40MLA. It's the so called "golden" power supply, part of it's name coming from the easy voltage selectors on the front and partly because of it's color :D

The controller is homemade, it has all of the normal functions; current/light tuning, beam on/off, run/idle and probes for tube current.

The fans are rather unique, they are pulled from an A140 projector and I arranged them on the old dryer vent adapter (without modifying the stock adapter at all, you can go back to a tube and squirrel cage fan anytime.) The fans run on 12V 2A and I will provide a wall-wart to run them.

This laser outputs a sum of 75mW+ between 7-8 lines depending on tube current. It fires first time every time. I run it once a month for 15 minutes+

Now, time to whore some awful cell phone pics!

This is at idle

Full power!

Idle...

Look at that awesome beam... Dot?

Full power!!

The individual lines, at full power.

That little dot, that's not glare. It's another line, a weak line but a line! (Who wants to guess the wavelengths?)

And just because I can :D

Scared the crap out of me, it's been forever since I popped a balloon!

Well, now the details...

I'm asking for $300 for this laser, shipping is largely unknown but I would guess around $75. The laser will be packaged in insta-pak expanding foam to give this thing the best possible chance of surviving! Plus I have a few from work I want to use :D The power supply will be shipped separate as it is rather heavy, I'm afraid that shipping them together will end with the power supply crushing the tube. If you do live somewhere near the Kansas City area I will deliver this thing if your less than 3 hours away.

I really hate to sell this thing but I never use it and I could use the money. Besides, I have a rotary converter and a rather large basement waiting for some real lasers ;)

Thanks for looking!!

That is a Great price indeed.

I love your fan modification:gj:, I remember reading about how 4 of them could more than handle the output needed for the argon(forgive my non-technical terms).

Good luck with the sale, at that price ANYONE in the market for a nice multiple line Argon would be crazy to pass this up. Here you have a Known working unit that has been maintained and taken care of. Look on Fleebay and the prices are higher and almost always untested.

I love my ML from Dave.....don't fire it up as much as I should, but always remember my monthly burn.

Wow. I'm not normally very big on gas lasers but I find myself wishing I had the room for this.

It would be very hard to find a better deal than this one.
Good time of the year to own one. Heats up my living room in about 15 min.

You can do an awesome Lumia using a diffraction grating- some textured glass and a 1/3rd rpm motor.

Pontiac is a good guy to deal with. He is smart too about the shipping-you dont want the PS bouncing around inside the same box with the rest of the parts--for sure.
SOMEBODY buy this so he can get a new lathe to make us some awesome hosts.

edit,, seeing an ML in person is much better than most pics. Go here:

http://laserpointerforums.com/f43/what-split-beam-ml-argon-65660.html

and you will see several great pics showing the lines much better, including one of GooeyGus. That photo made an impression on me that I could not let go.
Had to have a ML of my own.
Ended up with two MLs so I sold my extra to by LPF best bud Mark(Greenmechanic) with some help he found a source of Coherant Silicon optics ( several hundreds$$ if you wanted to pay Coh.) AFAIK there is not better diffraction grating than these. Since then I have sold all my extra ones. I bought the last ones offered at FeeBay. I still have ONE left.. its up for grabs at $50. If I can't get that I will be just fine keeping it. I am building an all gas RRRGGY/ML Lumia majic box that uses one of those Gratings to put six lines of color thru my wheels and torture glass tube.
So with that one tied up attached toa 1/3rd rpm motor, I would like to keep the extra for other uses, but for $50(free ship) I will part with it.

Just want to say as an owner of an 80mW ALC60 ML argon, that this is a really good deal on an amazing laser. If you've been used to laser diode lasers, you should get your hands on this argon laser because then you will know what a real high quality laser beam is all about. If you use a diffraction grating in room with smoke, the beam pattern is mind blowing.

I don't think I'm ready to lower the price much yet, as everyone else has pointed out you won't find a more complete guaranteed working multiline 110V Argon like this every day. They are only going to get more and more elusive as time goes on, seeing as how almost every argon line can be hit with a diode now.

I borrowed a slightly better point and shoot from work to take better pictures tonight. Dave has me eager to set up the fog machine and diffraction gratings. Hell, I might not even want to sell it in a few hours :D

I don't have an estimated ship weight yet but I will bring her in and weigh everything tomorrow at work as I don't have a scale at home. I would guess somewhere around 40lbs for the PS and another 10 for the head though.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys! This is truly a great laser, not really powerful but the beam is epic. You could probably fit 4 or more argon beams inside one normal diode beam and the divergence? What's divergence? :p

Plus there's 8 beams inside that one already tiny beam! I've been told having one of these small argons doing 8 lines is relatively rare too. It is an indicator that the tube is in good shape though, lines start to fall off as the tube sits (this is why you hear of "monthly burns" with argons.)

I'm really not wanting to sell this thing the more and more I think about it. If it doesn't sell by my deadline I'm keeping it for sure :san:

TRUE DAT!!
I get only six lines at idle but another shows up when I max it out at 147mWs
thats no time to have a fan not pulling enough air- she shut down on me once and I was crapping in my pants thinking I had killed my baby. But after cooling down --n/p. I willl never let that happen again.

I am going to make a 9(3x3) kasio fan for her real soon ....four(2x2) may be enough but nine would be better imo
