Re: Scammed! Beware.

Dear users. I was recently a "noob" to the whole DIY laser thing. I posted a topic asking users to maybe help me out or sell me a nice DIY laser. xarylx got in touch with me and said he would send me a very good quality burning laser for 60 dollars. So i sent out the money, and he sent the laser. I recieved it the next week, and i opened it up. I turned it on and to my astonishment it didn't burn anything. Yet alone even get hot. I'm guessing he put a 5mw diode in there and pretended it was powerful. After only 3 uses (turning the laser on and off) the diode broke and it was useless. I highly reccomend NOT to trade with xarylx.

ALSO:

I met a new friend on LPF.com Death Angel, He gave me alot of great advice. I Just sent out for one of his awesome Dorcy Mods. I HIGHLY reccomend this user. Rep ++

Sounds to me like a clear case of an overdriven diode. That would explain the syptoms you describe. Who's fault it is that it got overdriven? I dunno.

xgeek

I bought a homebrew red laser torch from xgeek. Extremely quick shipping, but it took longer than it should for me because I had some FedEx problems. Very nicely built laser.

<ebay>A++++. WOULD BUY FROM AGAIN.</ebay>

Please disregard my negative feedback towards xarylx. I didnt realize that he only wanted 30 dollars first of all. He did PM back to me explaining that i WOULD get a refund. I was in a mass of confusion at the time. I am sincerely sorry, as i just realized how great of a guy xarylx is. I will be sending the laser back to you ASAP. Please again disregard that.

To prove how great of a user he is read this pm i recieved.

Hi Brandon,

I shipped the minimag laser today by USPS First Class Mail and it should arrive next week or so. I also included two used alkalines so you can use it immediately. But I think those alkalines are abit overused. A little bit more power would burn better. Maybe try swapping ONE of them for a fresher batt. Burning power SHOULD increase. You can risk 2 new batts but I have personally never tried that. Probably will burn really well but at cost of diode lifespan.

The focus is set to as far as I can collimate it ~30 feet so you should see a nice bright dot when you point it at a far wall. Say you go outside and want to point at something really far away. If the dot is very big, you can try to collimate it further by adjusting the lens knob clockwise into the module. Clockwise makes the beam bend outwards. Try to get the dot as small as possible at a far object if you want to collimate. There will be some divergence at very long distances.

Bottom line: Screw inwards all the way to point at far walls.

But I guess you don't really want to point far but you just want to burn. To do so. Screw the lens knob anti-clockwise outwards. Make sure you don't screw too far out and the lens comes out. There is a spring under the lens so it might pop out. But from my experience. Even at very close range burning focus, the lens is not near coming out. The dot will appear large at distance when you focus near. Don't focus too near.

Bottomline: The closer you want to focus to the lens, the further out you have to screw it.

6 inches is a good distance for burning. Easier to aim and hold steady and not so much loss in power. You will have to focus to a pinprick to burn/smoke stuff. If you don't get the focus right, it is hard to burn. It is a 100mW rated module. Just move the minimag/target back and forth to get your pinpoint distance. You will see the black plastic smoking easily and you know you are near. Happy etching the black plastic, cutting black tape might take some steady hand.

Don't blind yourself. Adjust focus only when the laser is fully twisted off. On/off operation is twisty but don't twist too far out. Just enough for a very bright red spot. Should be safe to leave it on for a few minutes or so since it is not being over driven but not for too long. If you feel it get warm, turn it off and let it cool.

Okay - GLAD this issue has been resolved - point in fact here, people.....DO NOT openly slam anyone on the forum like this - it only leads to heartache, and bad stuff all around - Brandon, since I KNOW Xaraylx, you were very close to being banned for openly calling him a scammer when I personally know better. You also damned near ruined it for yourself permanently on this forum due to your hastiness - EVERYONE (including myself) needs to take time, COMMUNICATE, and attempt to end disputes as nicely as possible before taking them out to an open forum like this. I will stop preaching now, glad everything will be alright. Brandon - if you have not paid him yet, I suggest you do so, immediately, as that is poor form to not follow through with a promise like that. I received everyone's PM's regarding this issue - sorry I have not been able to reply to them - but it has resolved without my intervention anyways - I hope ! Keep everyone posted, and once I am personally satisfied that the resolution has been successfully reached, I will (With permission from all parties) delete the offensive posts, and edit this one to remove names from it.

Let's all be careful when doing trades - and NOBODY gets burned !

Well Put Greg. I think maybe an honest mistake has been made here by Brandon. A little mis communication has occurred. I knew something was wrong when Brandon sent me a PM calling me Josh. See he and I made previous arrangements as he was going to buy one of my lasers. Now how Xarylx got involved, I have no idea. Well I hope you learned from all of this Brandon.

Sadly neough, I need to post about a scammer that has taken from this forum from the begining, and ripped off a member several times now. Kaspar389 will be banned today - and has been given many times to make things right. When the forum meber that was ripped off attempted to contact him to collect the debt, he called him a stalker, and said he would never pay up, and never come back here, yet I see him on here daily. He has ignored many attempts at reaching him, and I warn ALL members to stear clear of him, 100% - whether it be here, or on ebay where he frequents, lies in the description, and will most likely rip you off there as well. I hope the police can be involved in this - as nasty little children who think it is funny to rip people off should be punished to some degree. Thanks for listening to my rant - Kaspar389 is banned for life due to this issue - and should have been gone a lot earlier, I think.

I bought a Dorcy DIY red from Death Angel. It was a great laser at an amazing price. He kept me up to date on the status of my laser, and was very helpful.

Pics: (yes, I know, the quality of my cellphone's camera sucks)

Brandon - it appears that YOU are the vilian in all of this, as you STIL have not paid up as agreed.  I highly suggest you pay up what is owed, prior to you being banned for life from this forum, and your information turned over to the authorities for prosecution.  I gather you do not realize that as soon as you agree to do business via the USPS mail system - that  if you do not follow through, you are guilty of federal mail fraud ?  Well - you ARE if you lie about things as silly as this.  And I hold a special little place in my tiny, tniy, black heart for scammers....fess up, and do what is right IMMEDIATELY.

About time for me to post here.

As for Greg, he is THE best guy I've ever dealt with purchasing online. Great products, outstanding prices, quick to ship, near instantaneous communications, and **ALWAYS**, every time, without fail, he stands by his word. I will continue to do business with him without hesitation.

In fact, Greg, if it would be easier, you can just keep my credit card info on file.

Izzy007 was a pleasure to work with. He was VERY patient with me while we were trying to figure out the best way for me to send him the money. Even to the point of losing a good chunk to PayPal fees when we had to use PP, yet not changing the original deal in order to cover those charges. He shipped the next day, after checking with me twice to make sure it was addressed properly, and while I'm not too familiar with the Royal Mail, however he sent it, it arrived in just 5 business days.

Pseudonomen137, I just ordered a pair of Lasershades from him. And while they aren't here yet, given our previous communication and his standing on this forum, I am absolutely certain that I'll be completely satisfied. *EDIT* They are here, and in just 5 days from ordering! Thanks Pseudo, I can't wait until the next order!

I just got some 7135s from Zarniwoop after he posted them First Class just minutes after I sent him the money. Thanks man!

abadcaffeinetrip practically gave me some Sport Elite Goggles, and then sent them to me in no time flat because that's the kind of guy he is. abadcaffeinetrip, you're an eyesaver!
