lol, well to bad i got one of the bad diodes out of the bunch :-X o well, we move on. i really dont like laser without drivers but this was an exception. but from now on its only ones with driver not saying people shouldnt buy this, but i would suggest useing the stock coin cell bats. long life time and a cool 140 - 150 mw

Yeah, We are soooooo focused on MOAR POWAHHHHHRRRR here that we forget that it doesn't take 300mW to burn stuff.

Do you have Open Can Diode in yours? If not, replace the dead Diode with an Open Can.

Yes monk it was an open can diode in it. All of the one's (with the exception of daves) has an open can diode in it. (now dave is going to feel not special) and all the future one's will as well.

I've got the next version in the works now that will essentially be the exact same thing.

Here is a picture of the new hosts beside the ordinary teenie burners.

I still havn't quite figured out how to get this one to work. Instead of just having the batteries inside, this one has it's own battery attachment that has to be unscrewed once you unscrew the head off, to replace the batteries.

I drilled out 5 heads for Ken on my lathe just last week, those ones will be pretty clean...

Those were perfect jay thanks. However it made me aware of a design flaw. See, I'd been drilling these out by hand and since I couldn't drill a straight hole, there was room around the module. With the perfect job you did on the ones I sent you there was no room around the module and since the positive was grounded to case on the host, yet the diode requires neg on the case, it was instantly shorting out. I resolved the problem by widening the hole just a teenie bit and use scotch tape to electrically isolate the module.

dang :-/ im soooo pressed to get one but my bad experience with ones without driver is tooo pushy :'( i only had it for like 5 minutes before it died and i really suck at soldering so i dont trust myself.

Hmmm... It seems that all you would have to do is install the batteries case negative...

Ordinarily that would be the case however it made it when backwards taht the laser never turned off at all since the positive was directly in connection with the diode's positive and the neg was always connected to the case of the barrel.  I'd have to work some kind of switch in order to make it work reversed.  the original setup was designed to allow the barrel to screw into the top of the diode holder thereby completing the circuit.  but since the barrel is connected throughout the whole thing, if it's not the positive, then the thing doesn't work.

Day, I told ya I'd fix yours for just the cost of the diode.  This honestly could have been my bad for this specific design flaw.  If the diode shorts out while it's on, it spells instant death.  Since there is really no way to know for sure, I'll pay for half of the diode. $8.
