hey what's up with my stuff?

I actually own one of these tiny fans, got it from eBay for experimenting with active cooling in my 445nm build. They're amazing for such a tiny device, put out a fair puff of air and add a distinctively cool high RPM whine to the laser (they're supposed to go about 9000 rpm). I ended up going with a 30x30x10 mm Sunon 12v since I am using three 3.7v lithium ion AAs and the extra airflow is niiiice, but I will of course be using the tiny 20x20 mm Sunon in other projects.

i got so many emails and a not arrived vip package that is driving me crazy....
I have been very busy just picked up my lathe a nice 9x20 lathe.
my new hosts for these fans are due tomarow they were going to be today but missed the truck. DHL.
been busy working on some deals in china for some cheap reads and other lasers and also working on tritum a nice cheap supplier under 5$ a vial.
So i have lots of things in the works.

Since the peltiers don't have specs I went searching.
Didn't find the exact one but did find a table that has sizes close and the voltages outputs.

I know this is like comparing an apple with maybe another type of apple. Not all TEC's may be consistent just because of size. The 8 x 8mm is showing 3.9v.

Ok, I'm going to get 2 and at least give them a shot. I don't have calibrated laser, but I should be able to get some numbers on output voltage and at least(hopefully) see if diff lens(AR coated) improve the output.
As with any hobby, experimenting has to be done by someone.
I'll post the results I get.

for a homemade LPM? I just tried coating one with some graphite spray I have but only got .2 volts out of it . . .

for the diy lpm to get a good reading you need a heatsink on the other side of the tec.

there is broham, maybe you should put on yer lasershades . . .

bad pic I know, I glued a peltier to 2 heatsinks and then sprayed it with a light coat of a graphite dry film lubricant Slip-Plate . . . all I had . . .





got nothing off the bare white ceramic face but got .2VDC from a Slip Plate coated tem . . . pretty sure any LPM using a tem has a substantial metal face to help distribute the energy . . . this does not . . .

this was never intended to be a LPM sensor . . . but what the hell . . . only $3.95

i know but by heatsink it needs a large thermal mass ie 1.5in aluminum block.
you need to make and increasing temp difference that little heatsink will heatup fast.
but yeah with those super cheap tecs you might be able to make the best and cheapest lpm out there besides your eyes of course.

.2v? Hmmmmmmmm.....even the smaller one on the link I provided was better than that.
I did see a pic that showed a hot & cold side for a peltier. Could it be you have the wrong side for the target or a good flat black might be better than graphite for heat retention?

A good heat sink will be needed to keep the reference side stable as possible.

What was the power of the laser in your test?
Graphite is conductive........did it bridge both faces?

I'm not using these for LPM sensors, just chilling half dead flies . . .

no, I understand these to be pure and simple tem heat pumps . . . they are advertised with no data what so ever, only dimensions . . .

It's a tiny peltier . . . burns and freezes my fingertips in about 2 seconds with a 7V input . . .

there are many reasons why laser amplitude measuring devices cost what they do . . .

this is an active cooling device with a thirst for amps . . .

I only tested that because you "vaguely" alluded to using it as an LPM . . .

These are high amperage cooling devices . . . hence the fans, heatsinks . . .

study was done before and after graphite spray and both polarities provided the same result . . .

again this is not a lpm sensor in my hands, it may be in someone else's. For me it's a peltier heat pump, a completely undocumented example . . . from an electronics surplus store.

the 445 laser in this "test" last put out 646 mw with a flexdrive set @ 850

How about an aluminium plate on one side, large enough to cover a coffee mug. On the other side 3 heatsinks and a fan.
With a little luck it will be able to power both the fan and an additional small LED.
It would look pretty cute next to a mug with a Stirling motor atop of it.

brilliant ! except it's not a motor . . . it's an engine . . .

and the fan motor will not start on a 7v shared circuit with the tem.

I'm a bit confused cause I didn't really see it anywhere but are the TECs $4 a piece? And how much for shipping? I may be interested in a bit. Additionally, I'd be interested in those tritium vials if you find a supplier I'm sure you'd get a BIG GB going on CPF if you wanted and showed your stuff here as assurance of rep.

I have a Stirling motor/engine from Deuche Museum in Münich that I have never gotten around to assemple. It is supposed to fit on top of a coffee cup.

I have no idea how much energy these Peltier elements will create from a temperature difference. But want to experiment with it, and a coffee cup.
