Yes it's normal. All 445 spot are rectangular. Due to the high powder lens it's not trimming off any of the beams as well.

The dot of the 445nm lasers is always bar shaped. There is also the possibility of ghost square around the dot. That is the reflection of the die. It is normal for these diodes.

I don't see the King Kongs on the Fasttech site. Hak also sells them or at least he used to. Bought 4 of them from him a few months ago

For those on the fence, the Dominator is a really nice looking host and so is Blord:crackup:

EDIT:
Found the King Kongs ofn the site but not under the battery size. Just put in "king kong" and they will come up.

IF you are in the states it would be faster from Hak though (if he still has them) and you get to support a member.

No problem. However, the focusing ring is rather loose and it only takes a tilt for it to loose focus. I guess I'll have to try the tape treatment.

You can put 1-2 layer of teflon tape around the threads of lensbarrel. That makes the focus ring more secure. Make sure you don't touch the lens or the diode window.

That's also my only complaint about the Dominator - mine got "fixed" with the teflon tape. Other than that it's wonderfully built! I also got lucky with a high wavelength diode, mine looks way bluer than 445nm. Rough measurements show ~454nm!

Blord, maybe you could add an external spring to your next Dominators to solve this issue?

The focus adapter has already an internal spring but due the sheer weight of the copper adapter the spring hasn't enough tension for keeping them tight.
I doubt an external spring would solve it. Beside there is no room for an external spring.
The best way is to put a layer of Teflon tape around the lensbarrel.

Worked for all my lasers. I thought Teflon tape was protocol on lens barrels

I hesitate to use Teflon in my builds. It looks so eh unprofessional.

Also the tape need to be replace after intensive usage. But I can put it on the barrel if people asked for it.

Can't afford anything really right now as I am still not back to work from all my hospital stuff but I can again give Blord my highest recomendation. If anyone is hesitent because they don't know him, just take a look around you at how many of us own Blord builds and at the reputation he has earned for not only his work but how he stands behind it

If you are having trouble finding the 26650 cells, an easy fix is to use these:
$1.30 18650 to 26650 Battery Converter - white / inner diameter 18.58mm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
There are some serious panasonic cells 18650B, PD and PF (PD replacement) that will have no problem running this unit.
You could of course make your own adapters if needed (I like to use automotive hoses as they can be purchased at any length and many widths). Personally hate battery rattle.
