830 vs 910

It's not really a "swing" so to speak. The LaserBee took about 60 seconds to measure power. The peak happens within those first 60 seconds. An Ophir can capture it, a TEC-based LPM cannot.

Looks very, very nice. Shoot me a pm as I cannot on this damn phone. Already have a few g1's. This is the closest in host size to the wf-602c host for sale that isnt already bought.

What kind of duty cycle does this laser require and what is the life expectency of the diode if it is running 600mA?

What kind of duty cycle does this laser require and what is the life expectency of the diode if it is running 600mA?

I would imagine that a duty cycle should be kept to under 2 minutes. I'm a horrible person to ask though, because I never use my lasers in that way - I rarely run them for more than a few seconds at a time (maybe 60 if I'm trying to capture an LPM) - so I never consciously think about duty cycles. To clarify, I'm not saying that YOU don't need to think about duty cycles. I'm simply saying that I never think about them, because I'm never keeping my lasers turned on for a duration of time that would approach the limit of a duty cycle (whatever that particular duty cycle limit might be)

Regarding life expectancy - nobody can give you a life expectancy figure for any of the diodes in use on this forum. If they do, they're making it up and misleading you. 600mA is much higher than these diodes were designed for. 1800 is much higher than 445s were designed for. All of these over-driven diodes (ie, pretty much every build you'll see on this forum) are running at a higher current than they were tested at by the manufacturer for the purpose of quoting life-expectancy figures.

I won't make up a number for the purpose of a sale. The reality is, this diode could last for 1,000 hours, or it could last for 30 minutes. It depends a little bit on your usage patterns, and a lot on your luck ;)

Are you open to international shipping? I know a lot of people on here won't ship to Australia.

I figured I would ask. I saw the 600mA and that was rather high I thought. I appreciate the reply rhd as it was rather informative.

A diode can die quicker running at 450ma if it isn't efficient in converting electricity to light. The less efficient it is, the more heat energy produced.

Rhd's diode is pretty darn efficient so it should have a fairly long life at 600ma given you give it a responsible duty cycle.

So, there's no reason to be worried, and rhd is a great guy.

Good luck!

Since I'm buying Pheonix's CNI tri-colour, I want to get this sale moving a bit - so I've dropped the price by $20.

Also, while I appreciate the vote of confidence from everyone in this thread, I should probably be clear about my position on the realistic life of this diode, and what I would guarantee.

More specifically, I have no idea what that realistic life expectation would be. Some have suggested that at 600mA we should be fine for a while, but this IS pushing the diode right on the edge of it's capabilities. So to be as explicit about this as possible, the only warranty life-wise I'd offer is that I'll replace the diode at cost, if it dies within the first 6 months.

The diode could last 5 years, or 5 days - and I really don't know of any way to predict which is more likely. This is probably an irresponsible current to be selling a laser set at.

So, with the good (high power) comes the bad (higher risk of death). I don't have any secret for working around this basic reality, so anyone potentially interested in this laser should be aware of this from the get-go, and should understand what my position would be if this diode meets an early demise.

First off this is a beautiful laser and im surprised it is not sold yet. I love how honest you are as a seller and good luck selling this awsome laser. By the way I got really excited when I read your post. I thought you said you are bringing it down to $20 , I really need to get to sleep.. Good luck!

Thanks!

I wouldn't be heartbroken to keep this guy. It's my only SH-032 right now, and it's pretty neat. Although I've already made a deposit on Pheonix's Tri-Colour CNI, and I'd love to send him the rest today. Maybe I'll drop this another $5 to $175 ;)

Just to put it out there, I made an offer on this laser. It is still acquirable if anyone wants it but if no one takes this up by this weekend I will be purchasing it.

Also just to clarify, what is your stance if, say, the laser only lasts <30 mins after arrival?

I think it would have to be the same. To be honest, I don't think I have 30 minutes of use on any portable laser I own, regardless of how long I've owned them. It's pretty hard to identify whether a laser has seen 30 minutes of use vs 50 hours of use.

Of curse I would stand behind it working on arrival - 100%. But beyond that, remember, I'm not saying that I wouldn't help a buyer if the diode died, I'm just saying that I would fix it for just the (real non-inflated) price of a new diode and shipping. No labor or anything, just the diode.

That's fair enough for a laser that is pushed beyond its recommended limits.
