Jeff, I like the r-a-f-f-l-e (just in case the wrong person search for the word) idea in common, but it´s not allowed here.

You may can do it on your own HP and tell people here..

And if you decide to go this route...and I'm not saying you should. Just make sure all the right people get notified.

As far as I know, you can host it on your own site and spread the word here..
Seeing as you wanted to donate the total incoming funds to LPF anyway,
perhaps email Avery and see what his thoughts on it are.

The whole 'raphle' idea was no longer allowed as some noobs on lpf decided
to make their sales this way..

Again if you are donating 100% of the $$ to lpf, it may change the rules,
but there is only one man that can comment on this...

Hey WB,

SO let me get this Straight. If the User Turns the laser off by forgetting to pressing the button and just uses the Key and then the next time the user goes to uses it and goes to turn it on buy turning the key to give power to the unit it will automatically go into that safe mode and give 1 quick flash Rather then Full blast. Then all the user has to do is Press the button and there lazing again.?

Correct.?

That Is Freaking Epic. I must have watch the video 5 times. No Lie.:D

Yes, thats the idea... Mind you watching that aspect in slow-moh makes me rethink
that as a safety feature.. Its still a burst, and im sure its over 5mW...

I guess the idea would still remain that the user should only put the key in
while wearing goggles, and point in a safe direction just as one would with
any high power laser..

I will be revisiting that feature in future builds to see if I can reduce that
brief output down to 0mW.

You can see in the video after that initial burst, there is a blue dot on the wood..
That output is a safe level, its the flash that precedes it which has me thinking.
In real time it doesnt look like much, but reducing the play speed by - x2, it
looks a bit bright to call it safe.

Im going to play with this on an o-scope and optical meter and see what the
numbers are.

I have a 4W in the works in a similar host... Safety is weighing greatly into
the design as the powers increase.. :undecided:

Im aiming for a 6W by months end with beam correction, expander
and adjustable focus :eg:

This I want to see! Albeit from 100 yards, behind a screen, with 2 pairs of safety goggles on and a fire extinguisher at hand.

The thought had crossed my mind, but that would make for an awfully
large hand held :D

Funny you mention the extinguisher.. I had a labby standing on end on my desk
and it scorched a hole in the ceiling tile above.. I noticed the small glowing ember
still there a few seconds after shutting the laser down... Fire hazard indeed :scared:

He should be quick before we´re gonna see a single 4W

No worries there, just means an 8W and so on :eg:

If the LD's begin to progress at that rate, things are
gonna get crazy, and fast :D

Hopefully the price won't be much more... I mean this one was $399CAD.. which is basically double of other lasers. But this was also a prototype, so hopefully cost can go down somewhat.

That said... if this was a 4W laser he has selling... good chance I would have gotten it. I just promised myself not to buy another 445 unless it was over 2W.

Prices go by how much time I have in each.. and of course what options
they come with..

This laser had about 15 ~ 20hrs in it from bar stock to finished product..
A 2 LD array based unit with beam correction will have over 100$ in optics
alone.. Time on the lathe, then mill for the optical platform, alignment,
wiring etc.

Alignment alone is a couple days spent.. Not an easy task or others would be
offering their own versions of them..
