Default SOLD....Prototype 2W-2.5W LaserBee A For Sale....

This Item is SOLD....

We have been working on another Economical Laser Power
Meter that will be offered on eBay in the near future for $174.99
plus shipping.

It was given the name LaserBee A for Analog....

It is a very small 3-1/2 Digital Display Non-Data Logging LPM.
( 2.5" X 4" X 1.5" )
It has additional circuitry that enables True Zeroing by way of the
Zeroing control on the exterior of enclosure.

We had left a 1.5W laser on the Sensor for 20 minutes to let the
Thermopile radiator heat up a bit then removed the Laser beam
and let the display drop to below Zero and stabilize there.
The Zero control was easily able to Zero the reading to take
another Laser power reading immediately.

There is room inside the enclosure to install our DL2-Module to
turn it into a Data Logging LPM which can read higher powers than
the on board 3-1/2 Digital Display.
Our DL2-Module will be discounted when purchasing it at the same
time as the LaserBee A.

It is to be noted that the DL2-Module is to be installed by the buyer.

You can also connect an external DMM to read up to the rated
2.5W of the LaserBee A Thermopile sensor...

It uses the same large and stable 2.5W rated Thermopile as
the LaserBee 2.5W USB that plugs into the LaserBee A.

The LaserBee A runs off a single standard 9volt battery and
draws a mere 32mA...

It also uses an LDO regulator on the PCB to ensure stable
readings even if battery voltages change with use.

Note that the installed 3-1/2digital display will only display
up to 2Watts.

We only have this single 2nd Generation Laserbee A Prototype
to offer on LPF at this time.

We may have a 1st generation LaserBee A to offer as well
in the near future.

The large pot knob on the side seems kinda chunky, it's one of the reasons I went with the slim knobs on the Alphas

Price seems fairly high - Also your comments on the "true zeroing" system are interesting. Looking at the Alphas which do not have a negative voltage rail, once the internal zero is properly calibrated the meter is accurate. Once the sensor is hot from measuring a high powered laser, the heatsink may be warmer than the front surface of the TEC, resulting in a negative output. If you zero this negative output, then you have skewed your meter readings.

TLDR - If your meter goes negative after a reading, zeroing the meter will cause bad readings - instead allow the sensor heatsink to cool before attempting to measure lower powered lasers. You do not need to allow the sensor to cool between measuring similar power lasers.

The zero adjust should only be used when the sensor is STONE COLD.

Like I said... it is one of our prototypes...
The pot knob looks large because the enclosure is smaller
than your Alpha. The production model has the knob on the
face of the meter.

As to skewing the reading....
Once the Thermopile Radiator has warmed up from repeated
high powered Laser Tests or a long high powered Laser test
the radiator can take up to 10 minutes to come to equilibrium
with the ambient air in the room without a Laser on the Sensor.

If you zero the Negative reading just before doing another
Laser test the radiator will stop it's cooling down process due
to the newly applied Laser's power. (at that point the Zero
reading would still be in the negative if not corrected) and you
would read low by close to that amount.

Our Shop Newport LPM exhibits that same tendency when we
test High Powered Lasers repeatedly and we need to adjust
the Zero Pot between tests.. That is normal...

I agree... with low powered lasers the readings will no doubt
not need zeroing since we use a larger thermal mass Radiator.

As to the Price.... we are a Company with a Shop and overhead
to consider.
I see you increased your Alpha price by 25%...
I didn't question why you needed to increase your prices since
you do not have a company Shop or overhead associated in
running a registered company...
That's because it's none of my business...

Our LaserBee A uses slightly more sophisticated circuitry than
yours and our enclosure is CNC cut and we have Labels and
Serial Numbers made. Those things also add to the costs.

The pricing of our LaserBee A is only a bit higher than your LPM...
We feel that our price is justified for what we are offering.

If the price is too high it just won't sell...

"you do not have a company Shop or overhead associated in running a registered company... "

I can't speak for Quebec, but in most provinces it costs < $100 to register a company and do all that associated stuff. I wouldn't think a small business would be filing corporate taxes either... so I'm really not understanding this argument about being a registered company impacting product price.

BUT, overhead makes sense to me. If J.Bauer Electronics is running out of it's own shop, then there's rent, utilities, etc. I didn't realize that though. I thought it was done out of your home. That's pretty cool that the LPM business can support it's own shop, with overhead, etc.

As a matter of fact I have a bookkeeper come to the shop once
a month to put the papers in order. Then once a year I need to
hire a Chartered accountant to do the yearly Report.

The Shop we have now we built in 2000 it has heating/air conditioning
and lighting bills not to mention the mortgage.
The Shop is equipped with all the tools of the trade we need....

The LPM side of the business is just one part of the Industrial
Electronics R&D we do...

BTW to get a regular personal registration for a personal
company in Quebec only costs $35.00Cnd...
It is quite a bit more to get incorporated and other expenses as we
found out ~20 years ago....

Well I would say that his reason given for pricing is a little better than "mixing epoxy"

I'm making sure that my future products will be optimized for rapid assembly and will be outsourcing the PCB population and soldering to a professional company.

TLDR: More meters, new features, always in stock (if all goes according to plan

Thanks guys.... it is the little things that make items
look like a finished product...
The labeling is done by an outside company that does
all our Labels and product Serial Numbers...

1) My derived math for the transaction

$139.99 Prototype 2W-2.5W LaserBee A
$ 18.15 Shipping
$ 99.99 calibrated DL@-Module
-$25.00 DL@-Module discount
$233.13 Total - Cnd

2) Prototype 2W-2.5W LaserBee A is fully compatible with build 2.2.0.3 of your LaserBee EagleEye I software

3) Thermopile interchangeable with LaserBee 2.5W USB Thermopile

If Thermopiles are indeed interchangeable then a simple swap at the end of a LPM test with a second one (which will already be at ambient temperature) will allow for nearly no delay when LPMing a second laser. However, if rather each LPM is calibrated to its mated Thermopile, then I can see the flaw that would prevent this option.

The Prototype 2W-2.5W LaserBee A offers a full complement of functionality: zeroing, portability, long battery life, local display, DVM connectivity, serial interface for data logging via a DL@-Module, and a clean professional enclosure and construction.

All in all this is a very nice offering, and I am very tempted, for sure.
Yes... your calculations are correct...

It is to be noted that the DL2-Module must be installed by
the customer.

Each LaserBee product (no matter which model) is calibrated
to it's matched Thermopile head. That is why the Electronic
emclosure and the matching Thermopile have matching Serial
Numbers.
These Serial numbers are recorded with in house calibration
data.

for your kind words on our product...
