This is the highest I've gotten it. 7.84 at 4.5 amps.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

Thanks for the copper polishing tip. My sinner all copper host has a heavy chrome plating over it and is very shiny so it obviously works. Beautiful unit.
I can't help but wonder how much a coated 3 element lens can take since it absorbs so much power. Anyone ever inspect one after 7+ watts going through it? Can't help thinking something might happen to the coating or too much is reflected back at the diode. Somehow I lost track of all those issues that people were having with the dots looking bad from something getting distorted or junk on the lens. Whatever happened with that?

I'm going to put my 2nd nubm06 minus it's Gball in this finned job and enclose my Cyl pair with a copper tube sticking off the front, it will look a little different, like a plumbers tool from Barbarella, but I like different.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I haven't had an issue but I can definitely see it being a problem. If these diodes keep getting more powerful at the they've been we're going to need fused silica lenses. I have a combiner cube I've been wanting to use to combine 2 06's together. I wonder how that will hold up. I can picture it being damaged.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I bet that's why they put a Gball lens at a longer focal length rather than that little window up close among other reasons it saves 1 part, even with the can/window there is an additional lens, the Gball is pretty well focused and is a good lens.

I have popped some of those little windows. Yes I know they can take a lot more power, but running long periods of time they want to lower the failure rate, and I have popped 4 or 5 of them over the years, well most all in the last year...actually all 5 in the last 12 months.

I really need to keep the Gball on, and I can correct the beam out of the Gball and combine 2 of then as they will cover more area, but then I need a beam expander to widen and focus to a point all the power as my desired distance.

But I am going to test some lens on this 2nd nubm06, I think podo's G2 and G7 will hold up just fine, the G7 is a longer FL single element and should work well, but I will post a pic of how it prints.

You know it will end up as a diode stack anyway, so a fused silica FAC will be needed, but there is always a way.
They may come as diode stacks with a FAC attached, many variables, but the Blue laser has an efficiency edge and looks to be the light engine of choice, and that's good for us power mongers, yes I like pretty also, but I just want to burn my name onto the moon like any kid. :D Joke.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I just realized I forgot to put the fall lenses with your order. I have a cold and slept all day and made it to the post office 5 minutes before it closed. I will mail them separately to you tomorrow. Sorry about that.

It's all good, just tell me what you need for shipping.
I had a pretty rough cold myself last month, but it was better in 3 days, I had 101.5 fever and aches, pretty intense actually and I usually don't get sick.

I'll just send them in the regular mail unless you need them in a hurry.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

This is one of the new lasers I have for sale. I have 4 diodes to choose from. NUBM06 NUBM07E NUGM01T AND the 700mw oclaro red diode.

It has a lighted switch and digital voltage meter.
You can buy it as a kit or fully assembled.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I like it, so you can see your battery sag under load, how about an ammeter?

Also with an ammeter would it use an inductive loop around the line between the driver output and diode or would it be inline, because if inline will if throw off the SXD?

I know the volt meter would be no problem, and knowing driver cutoff you could see when you need to recharge, it's often before you think with higher power diodes, by 3.65 I recharge to stay above the 6.8v cutoff under load with 2 cells using a sxd driver.

This would help show when you need to recharge more accurately without taking out cells and checking.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I've been told to never test amps in line to the diode it's really bad for the driver. I have two more hosts coming that will be using a battery capacity and amp meter that has a low cut off warning. You could set the volt meter to show amps by measuring across the diode just like you would do to set the current on the driver.

Re: NUBM06 diode copper and aluminum host

I was thinking about a little ferrite inductive loop, but knowing cutoff and seeing the voltage under load will do just fine, I was thinking to monitor the driver...but you say a low cutoff driver....this sounds great for people wanting to stay with 2 batteries and not have to use 3 with the new diodes that are coming, well I saw 6amp drivers on Angelos page last month so that was a hint that something was coming, probably already in hand somewhere ;)

Edit: Ok I see how you mean. That would work and I know not to put anything inline, I tried to tell someone when I first got here that the wire length between the diode and driver output mattered if in the several inches length and I got flamed, but it's true. Just that little bit of resistance will change the op amp output to the diode albeit only slightly.
