Hi guys! Haven't been here for quite a long time and I figure I'd sell my laser to somebody who would make better use of it since it's just been sitting in its case.

Manu: ???
Model: Viasho Type 1 Green
Serial #: 070927243
Avg Output: 355.0mW (see power cert)

Comes with:
- Hard case (eggshell padding inside)
- 2 3.7V 18650 batteries
- Charger for batteries (two available slots)
- Adjustable tail-cap (+ key)
- Non-adjustable tail-cap (+ key)
- Power Certificate (picture below)
- Extra goodies

I purchased this from Carter Haines (don't know if he's still around or remember his user name was but he was very trusted around here.). It was from a long period of trying to order from a manufacturer and he chose not to say which it was (hence the "Manu: ???"). It's received minimal use (very liberal estimate of less than 7 hours) over the past few years and was very well cared for. One thing to note is that battery connectivity can be weird, but you just have to screw it on a couple times to get it right (I guess line the cap up with the right threading) and then it works perfectly (it won't cut out or anything once it's on right).

Picture time! (excuse the dorm room)

in case anybody was wondering... can't go through college without building stuff, right?)

Re: Selling - RPL 300, 355mW avg, 532nm [many pics]

You are going to have problems to sell the laser at this price.

Also, a similar (NEW) laser is a way cheaper on Optotronics (Viasho Group Buy Lasers)

BUT afaik the RPL´s, now sold in the silver host, are cherry picked units with lower divergence.

Remeber, between 2007 and 2011 now there was a technology jump, and also a drop at the high powered laser prices.

At least I wish you good luck with your sale! Nice pictures btw.

Hi DNJY! Haha thank you.

So what amount seems reasonable? Or should I just leave it and let people offer? Maybe it works differently on here but normally people will offer some lower amount anyway, haha. Car for 30,000? Ask for 3,000 cheaper. Skiis on Craigslist for 220? Offer 180... etc. Honestly it's not going to go up in value though and it's just sitting around at the moment. I just want whatever I can get without getting screwed :p

Point taken ;)

You should check the divergence of this laser, if it is like the silver RPL Optotronics is currently selling, you have a big plus point.

Peh it's been a while... I can't say I remember how. Unless that is a lab kind of thing. My school has a small laser lab that would probably have equipment? And the one's you're talking about are 1.4mrad if I'm not mistaken?

Something about size at aperture vs size at some distance away... eh.

I'll find it though. Regardless of how much I'd like for it, I'd want whoever buys it to know fully what they're getting. Should I film it so people trust the measurement? lol

The silver RPLs have <1.0mRad divergence, but also ~1.2mRad should be better than many other high powered lasers around.

It is always good to proove measurements ;)

Well I feel like I'd need a filter on the camera to dim it down or else it would just get overwhelmed by the spot and you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. Though I could use a lower power... that shouldn't change anything right?

What's an example way you would measure it? Like over what distance? Can I just use the spec'd aperture diameter or should I measure that too?

A suggestion from a professor was "For measuring divergence, the simplest would be to measure the beam diameter at a few different distances. For diameter you allow the beam to fall on a power meter, then you occlude it with a razor blade mounted to a micrometer. You fit the resulting power vs position to an error function (the integral of a Gaussian)."

... what? lol

And still, what distances would give a good enough distance? Are we talking a couple meters or in the tens of meters?

Hi Rasel,
It's NOT an RPL.
The serial number is not in our database, so it's not an RPL.
RPL's are only from Optotronics, this is a generic Viasho and by it's serial number a very early type 1 model from July 2007.
It has a shorter duty cycle than the new Viasho, has much lower performance specs and lower quality components.
Not sure what you're trying to sell it for, but if output power still measures up to the 355mw, you should be able to get $200 or so for it.

Re: Selling - 355mW avg, 532nm [many pics]

Oh awesome, thanks for the tip! Thanks for checking! Edits made.

To clarify, is an RPL an RPL basically just because it comes from Optotronics then? Obviously in this case it's a much older model either way but just wondering. Not saying it's a name-brand thing, I know you guys hand pick the units you sell so they are the best of the batch. ;)

As a selling tip, got any ideas on how to give people a better chance at finding this thread? Make the title "$200 - 350mW Viasho 532nm" or something like that? Thanks, haha. And are there any other sites/forums recommended to post this on? I think eBay/Craigslist don't allow stuff like this, right?

For $200 this laser should go pretty fast...

One thing though, where are you located, and what are the shipping terms?

Re: Selling - 355mW avg, 532nm [many pics]

Eh whatever I'll just go with $200 then. If anything I'll just make somebody suuuuper happy... haha.

Will be shipping from San Jose, CA. So I'm a selling n00b, but this is what I'm feeling. Since price is lower than I'd like, it'd be cool if buyer takes care of shipping or at least some amount of it. If any of the experienced sellers have suggestions on this, I am more than open. I am also willing to use a middleman if necessary but would really like buyer to take shipping in that case.

Furthermore, how do people usually do payment here anyway? Paypal? You can send the money to your bank account when it's all good and done, right? Could mail a check but I feel that's too insecure for transactions like this...

PM SENT
The fastest would probably be a money order. That is an insured "check" type of payment that can be cashed like one too. I can offer middle man services for free. Would be tested on a Radiant ALPHA and a Laserbee LPM .

Awesome! Yea just saw your PM from yesterday. Either way, seems like your help as a middleman will be the best way to go. Will let you know tomorrow.
