IT'S BEEN SOLD!
or has it....?

I'm putting up for sale this pointer I made here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/635nm-40mw-pointer-build-61949.html

Runs on a 14500, or optionally 2xAA.
I don't know how many mW it has exactly, but if you focus it down with a lens
it'll smoke the dark electrical tape, if that tells you anything...:undecided:

It is very bright though, almost as bright as a DVD diode at 400mA,
but since it runs at much lower current ~100ma and lower voltage too,
it doesn't seem to heat up much at all, and is easy on the batteries too.

Put in an AR-covered lens like the ones qumefox is offering and it'll be even brighter.

I'm just a little undecided as to how about I should go about this?
an auction or ask for a high price to begin with and bump it down as time goes by and noone buys it?
Especially since that it seems very unlikely to get another one of these diodes anytime soon.:(
Special little diode, such nice color and visibility for so little power, flawless emission profile,
the most gaussian distributed diode I've ever seen.

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

I am interested. Did you have a ballpark price to start out with?

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Rare chance to get one of those now discontinued 40mW sanyo diodes! Nice host too

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Here you can see it stand it's ground vs a "30~50"mW of 532nm and 300~500mW 445nm

Good question. I'm not really sure. This is nothing hugely impressive, but
it is a nice and compact little laser with a rare (as of this moment) diode inside.
The diode cost 30$ at the time, but where would you or I get another one now?

I suppose that for 150$ I'd ship it anywhere and would even include a battery and
a charger. But I guess most people already have batteries and charger.
Also, most people wouldn't want to pay that much for a relatively low powered laser.
I guess part of the price I'm asking is accounting for sentimental value, not knowing
if I ever get one of these again....

So there you have it, if you think the price is to high, make me a reasonable offer
via PM, but expect me to wait around for others interested if you're offer isn't
as high as I'd like it to be!:na:

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

I think $150 will be fair in the near future if not right now. These diodes are gone for good and the few that are left are held by retailers who are already asking crazy prices like over $100 for the diode alone (or so I have read). If you want 635nm your only other options are either a measly 5-7mW or 500mW multimode with horrible divergence and also quite pricey.

I still have one of those diodes brand new from the eBay seller. Debating what I should do with it. I want to put it in an Ehgemus host, but Dr. Lava is still out of flex drives it seems....

Why do you want a flexdrive?

I used one of these powered by a 10440 and it works great and is a lot cheaper

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

I was considering making you an offer which would depend on when I get my tax check. However I just noticed you are outside the US. I'm not big on getting these things through customs. Any idea what shippping from portugal to the US is like?

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

It takes around two or three weeks, and it's quite cheap, too, under 10$, I'm not sure
about insurance or tracking though. If that's what your question was about.

I never shipped a complete laser to the US, so I wouldn't know how well it passes
customs. I guess I could remove the sticker, add a fresh one you can stick on yourself
later on, and split the whole thing among two envelopes, if you wanted to be really paranoid about it....

Let me take some more pictures tomorrow, OK?
There's a tiny scratch I think anyone interested should know about...

Anyways, thank you for your interest.:)

Thanks, I'll wait for the new pics, but I think I am interested. I'm just trying to juggle money I don't even have yet (next week) for two lasers now. So I have to think for a bit and see if I can come up with a number that works for both of us. Of couse if you sell it before then, it's my lose. :)

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Ok, here's some more pictures.
First, some dents and scratches. You hardly notice them until you look for them.
No, really. But they are there....
A dent from when it fell to the flore once, when it still had the green module inside.
doing.jpg

A slight scratch next to the clicky button.
scratchm.jpg

A bump it acquired during the modification for the 635nm.:shhh:
dentg.jpg

I could sand this down and spray paint it, but I'd rather not.
Those were the faults. Now for the nice things. A beam.
beamk.jpg

And the fact that you can use either a 14500 for a small, small pointer, or two
standard AAs with the extension tube.

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Hey Anselm, I have a solution for your dilemma. It goes like this; You do your "GOOD DEED FOR THE DAY", & just give it to me. I promise to take care of that baby as if it were a baby of my own blood. Besides, just think at how GOOD you'll feel by making a donation to a worthy cause (me).
All kidding aside though sure looks like a nice, neat & thorough job to me !!! BTW, what kind of host is that ? Seems like I can make out the "Wicked Lasers" logo in one or two of the pix ? The MAIN reason that I'm replying to this ad though, is to put in my un-asked for opinion on the price. With the diode that you put into that pointer, @ 40mW's, & the great choice of host (I love the kind that have the 2 different battery set-ups), IMO, $150.00 is too LOW of a starting point. $175.00 to begin with seems to make more sense to me. Heck, that slick orangey/reddish color can't be had any other way, none I know of besides the Gas He-Ne's. Anyway, here's a boost for your Ad to keep it up front & center for ya. If I could squeeze the $$$ out of my non-existent budget, I'd buy it from you. For now though, I'll have to settle for my ~5mW, 635nm. Dragonlaser Pointer (nice unit BTW), & my 5-7mW Gas He-Ne. Take care pal..................... rob

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Rob, the host isn´t from Wicked, it is/was this laser here. IMO his price is rigth, it is also about the price RA_pierce sold his 40mW 635nm some time ago.

Re: FS: 635nm pointer

Thanks for the info, buddy. I checked FocalPrices 'GREEN LASER' section but couldn't find a part that matched the one you linked to (# LP 381 B). Maybe it's an older, out of production Model. Thanks though for helpin' me out !

About the price of the 635nm Laser, a LOT will depend on how MUCH the prospective buyer "LIKES" that particular color laser. MY favorite color laser is BLUE of any VISIBLE
Band Width, perhaps someone else likes the unique color of 635nm's, as much as I do the 473nm's. Take care pal, just rob..........
