Re: FS: 3.1W C11 445nm(Price Drop $325) + 100mW Greenies

Hey is the green still for sale?

The 2nd one is, and the 1st one is on hold. If I don't hear back from them I'll have that one for sale as well.

What are your prices shipped to Aus? If its reasonable i'll take the one you have left.

*cough* customs *cough* ;)

Are you going to get him to disassemble it or something?

As Gun said, customs would be an issue with Australia.

I'm shipping within the US only to avoid any issues.

I just want to ask.. Have you ever got a laser from oversea's?

And yes, i would ask for no batteries.. Then get the lens etc sent in a different package.. Also have astronomy equipment written on it with a gift value under $20. Has worked for me 100% thus far.. And i am also a genuine astronomer. So i actually have a reason for having them.

Lasers for astronomy in Australia are limited to a max output power of 30mW I believe, so your excuse wouldn't work. Not to mention you'd have to file an import declaration first. It's not just a matter of it getting stuck in customs, then you having to show proof. If you do it that way, it will get expensive real fast. Saying "I'm a genuine astronomer" won't work either, you'll have to prove you're part of some research or educational organisation, not just a hobbyist.

There is a chance it might get through untouched, but if it doesn't, it's gone.

I am not just a hobbyist. I work for the CSIRO. Also, where i get them sent to there is no upper limit on power. Anyway, as i said.. I have had 100% get through thus far and if one does get stuck i can at least try getting it back using my job as a physicist as an excuse?

You can try, but usually you'll need a customs broker to even be heard, which will be expensive.

Taken from police.nsw.gov.au

Q: Am I allowed to own a battery operated, hand held, laser pointer?

A: You are allowed to own such a laser pointer. However recent amendments to the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998 require a permit be issued (or the person be eligible for an exemption) where the laser pointer exceeds one milliwatt. Regardless of the milliwatts, no laser pointer can be carried or used in a public place without a reasonable excuse.

Q: What is a reasonable excuse?

A: A reasonable excuse will be determined on a case by case basis but examples of a person with a reasonable excuse could be an amateur astronomer, a teacher or a lecturer who uses the pointer for astronomy or teaching and has it in his or her possession at the relevant time for that purpose.

Q: Are any laser pointers prohibited?

A: Laser pointers with a power output of more than one milliwatt are now prohibited weapons. You must obtain a permit to possess or use a laser pointer that is in this category, unless you use the pointer for activities associated with astronomy and are a member of an approved astronomical association.

I am a member of 3 of these astronomical associations in NSW and one in S.A.. I get most of my lasers sent to a NSW address then get them sent on to me through express AusPost.

Yes, I realize astronomers fall under that category, I'm saying it's not as simple as calling them on the phone and saying you're an astronomer. You have to legally prove it.

But you may want to inquire a bit further, because as far as I know, in QLD at least, there is a limit of (I think either 20 or 30mW) for laser pointers, no matter what. 100mW is a pretty decent powered laser, so they might think differently. PS: They DO measure them on a power meter.

Only if they can measure them.. Its pretty hard to measure a laser that has no battery, no lens, no focus adapter and no battery end cap.. All those things (minus the battery) would be coming in a separate shipment on a different day.

Anyway.. Enough of jacking this sales thread.. If he doesn't want to send outside the U.S then that is his choice. Good luck with the sale!

Actually I'm pretty sure that this means that even if your laser is legal (under 1mW), you still can't carry it without an excuse. If they find you with a laser in public that is over 1mW they'll most likely confiscate it, regardless of your excuse.

I'm going to update the thread now, but both the grenies are available and the 445 is sold.

if the 445 is sold you may want to delete the photos to shorten the first thread and bring the two greenies to the top since they are the ones still for sale
