Default Re: Laser Projector and Quickshow! RPL-500

Per the manual:
638 @ 200mW
532 @ 150mW
450 @ 500mW

1-36

20K scanners.

Air cooled with the exception of the dpss with has a TEC

Including the ILDA DB25 cable.

Was never able to measure the output of each color. The brains of the projector will not allow a static beam so I could never get it. Only measures I could get were with some sort of TTL modulated beam so it was never max power. Let me know if you have any questions.

NO we read that at JL.org specs -- that all DPSS JL lasers had IR filters. (which they always did and they were always good) BUT AFAIK no member asked specifically about the IR filter of the PRO 473 until one already had discovered the mess-up- For sure, this should have been caught by the guys at JL ( dont blame Gray he is sales - but you can blame me if you feel the need)- I too was amazed getting >200Mw FROM A LASER SOLD AS 30Mw <<< KEEP THAT IN MIND PLZ- none were sold as a higher output-
which IMHO is way different than selling a 30mW 473 as a 150mW and having no IR filter

CORRECTION this PJ is an 850mW not 500mW-the LK PD2 was 500mW
Speedy could have measured the output of each color using his QS- I could measure the one i have here but his may be different however all my experiences with LK tell me that they do not exaggerate the powers.
this package deal is an excellent value- there is sorta no such thing as 'used' QS/FB3 - updates are free for life- the DAC is fixed or replaced if it should have a problem-forever-
and finding ANY in the secondary market for less than 400$ is extremely rare- I have seen less than six FS (in ~6 years)and the best priced I saw was sold in an hour- 750$ for two FB3s- Pango has NEVER sold just the DAC - their 'take' is- the soft is free with the hardware-
you can load from the disc in any PC but there are no clones of the FB3 -and no other dac will work-
the many many complete song modules that come with QS alone are a bargain at 500$

Not sure ATM if the LK warranty on this LK SD850 has lapsed- but I will always be there to help any LK owner no matter where they made the buy-
LK has been wonderful with help and parts- saving all lots of $$- round trip to china and back can cost 1/2 the cost of the PJ- and you will have a wait- if we can fix problems here and get free parts --win win

for even more info on QS go to pangolin.com and take the time to see the demo- read the info and you should know then why Pangolin has 16,000 QS owners ( 26yrs)
PM anytime-

Exclamation Re: Rpl-500

Interested in Optotronic handheld.
But first I need some infos, please be honest 100%:

- Any cosmetic damages? Scratches? Identation?
- The dot is round and clear or around it there are strange patterns and reflections like a dirty/ruined lens?
- More or less, how much working hours has the diode?
- Have You always respected the duty cycle?
- In what year do You have bought it?
- Usually, what is the environment temperature when You use it?
- The Optotronic site claims divergence very low and beam very thin, the best specs for an handheld laser: it is real?
- What is the real average output? 500, 450, 400 or 350? ??? Reading Your title and Your posts I have seen all those values ...

Yes I know, I'm a maniac, please bear with me

Default Re: Rpl-500

It has signs of normal wear. No scratches but there will be small imperfections. Nothing stands out unless you're looking for them.

Dot is perfect and tight. No artifacts.

I'm the second owner of it and I have put about 2 hours on it.

I have always run it far below duty cycle. Max of about 30 to 40 seconds for pictures only.

I purchased it from Optotronics last year directly from Jack.

Temperature in the house is usually around 22 degrees.

Peak power on the Ophir was 450 and then it would settle and fluctuate around 350 to 400. DPSS are never to stable in hand helds.

Shipping to Italy would be a little bit more than shipping in the states.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I have not understand a thing: You have bought it from Jack but You are the second owner ... so Jack has sold this handheld to You as used?
And the owner before You was reliable?

Yeah it was returned to him to repair some threads on the front cap from a beam expander. All that has been fixed by Jack. Then the owner decided to sell it and instead of shipping it back out of country and possibly back into county it was held onto by Jack and sold onLPF. So when I bought it Jack sent it to me.

I hope that makes sense.

Exclamation Re: Sinner 3.4W for sale!

Well, today I received the Optotronic 500 mW.
After the first shot I understand that the laser could have a lot of issues: beam not so powerful, beam out of azimuth (not parallel to the host), dirty dot (patterns and artifacts) and heatsink completely cold after some minutes of work. The rest of the host become hot quickly.
So I have unmounted the heatsink from the main body, and inside I saw an horror gallery: the first collimation lens was mounted in a cilindrical barrel locked to the diode heatsink simply by a trembling black tape. The beam was out of azimuth because the barrel was non perpendicular to the diode+crystals block. The inside barrel lens was so badly fixed that a pressure in the right side of the tape for a certain amount of time was enough to place the lens in a better but not perfect place (sic). Then I blowed both the lenses with Visibledust Zeeion Blower to slightly reduce the dirty dot. But the bad surprises did not stop here. The thread where the heatsink is normally screwed was wrapped with a lot of teflon tape, so the thermal transfer between the two aluminum parts was seriously compromised. So with a lot of patience I have unwrapped all the teflon tape from the thread to discover another horror: the thread was literally caked by different kind of glues, both soft like silicone than hard like bi-components epossidic adhesive.
With again a lot of patience, with the help of some tools, I have carefully removed all the glues, but at the end of the work the cilyndrical threaded heatsink was very sloppy when screwed to the main body thread, so I was forced to put four smalls drops of Alumina Thermal Paste to lock the heatsink in the right position.
After a general polishing, I put a freshly charged Panasonic NCR 18650-B 3400 mAh cell and I proceeded with the output power check.
I used Laserbee 7W with Ophir head, so the measurement was very accurate.
This is the result:

The laser is heavily underspeced and goes very often in hopping mode (visible flickering).

Conclusions:

Pros:

- Very thin beam;
- Low divergence;
- Good bright.

Cons:

- Very underspeced laser;
- Unstable output;
- Beam not perpendicular to the aperture;
- Dirty dot;
- Bad assembly.

The price was ok, but with 150 extra dollars a CNI PGL-III was surely a better choice.
The laser is damaged, someone has abused the item and handled it without a minimum of knowledge of the facts.
I put the laser together the other lasers only for my personal collection, but surely I will use it rarely.
