For sale is a JDS Uniphase 2114B-40MLA (according to PSU) multiline argon ion laser. It comes with 240V cooling fan and Homemade Interface. The tube has approx 4000 hours on it and starts on the first ignition pulse. It's outputting around 50mW at full power (although the sticker on the top rates it at 0.5W) and is giving 3 lines. I reckon with competent tweaking and realignment the power could be boosted and more lines could be expressed.

I'm asking £100 + any delivery costs. This is a good opportunity for some of the UK LPF members to buy a full ion laser system without the hideous delivery costs that are involved when shipping a laser system from the US.

(I can offer pics on request)

Sorry to do this to you, but if it is only giving three lines at power, it is not just "tweaking" that is needed. The tube is on its way out. Mirror mis-alignment will decrease the power output. However, 50mW is plenty of power to express all of the lines. I have lower powered ML's that show all the lines at <20mW

How about just selling the PSU and interface to someone that needs it. IMNHO taking money for that tube would be wrong.

Peace,
dave

Dave, I believe this head is a 2211-20SLE head, so the power with the lines it's doing seems about right.

How about posting some pictures? ;)

He states in the posting that it is a 2114B-40ML. However, even if it was a 20ML, only three lines of color at 50mW is NOT right. Plus if it was a 2211-20SL it would only be giving one color line (488nm).

Make a deal with him for his PSU.

Peace,
dave

Also FYI the uniphase tube lasers have hard sealed mirrors, they are not adjustable.

Just got this laser today and it fired up first time (after I realised the shutter was closed on the head... doh!) great beam! excellent price and packed really well, I haven't tested the ML on the unit yet as I don't have a good enough beam splitter!

If nothing else I got the PSU, so I can get a cheap ML second hand head if the tube does ever die on me!

Thanks, Tomato!
