Trust me, you don't want those bare emitters! I got some from rhd a while back. I managed to get just one to work after many failed attempts but the materials I used to mount it and connect wires have too much resistance. It won't go over maybe 10mw because of the resistance

Ahhhh, I forgot about that! See, frustration ^

Hence me deciding that for the benefit of our universe, I didn't want to plague anyone else with the headache

Again, they sound cool in theory. In practice, they're not.

That said, a fun thing to do with them is sandwich 20 of them between two aluminum plates, and then send current through them en masse. You sort of see a few of them lase, pop, the next ones lase, pop, etc.
