Re: Sinner's MS-SSW *SECRET WEAPON" Custom Host for 3W+ builds - Prices Dropped $90.0

The MS-SSW is built for 26650, not 22650's, but mine last a LONG time. And I use mine set at 2.25A. It is amazing to be how long the batteries actually last!

Also, my biggest advice on the MS-SSW build is this: once you know that your diode leads are connected and working, epoxy them in place. Due to the number of twists to put the head on, it is really the only way to be sure of not tearing them off of you 9mm diode(or other diode).

My positive lead actually ripped off the 9mm during my MS-SSW build but I HARDCORE lucked out and only the lead popped off and not the diode pin.

epoxy them to what? do you mean epoxy them to the wall of the head of the laser or epoxy them where the solder joints are to get a more solid connection?

cheers, will

What's going on here, is that the module is sealed to the heatsink (small dia. PL520 module) and the pins and wires are epoxied together and to the diode to prevent the pins from twisting. I am even going to add some extra protection to the base of this diode, as it's a 3.8mm and even more fragile than the 9mm.

And whatever amount of time the epoxy tells you it needs to harden, toss it out the window. Leave it for 24-48 hours so that it CURES. Otherwise the toeque can still twist it.

^THIS!

The photo I showed earlier is after I torqued my pins and wires before they cured. I am going to leave this thing alone for at least 36 hours after I complete my mods before I try to reassemble it.

It took me 3 1/2 hours with a small blade and a needle to remove the silicone and shrink wrap from the horribly bent pins. The Vin lead was sitting on top of a smashed case pin, and the V- pin was bent over the top of them. It was sheer patience, skill, and a miracle that I didn't shear the pins off of the diode when repairing it!

I am glad to see I am not the only one who has done that haha. My pins looked like a mangled mess. The only reason they didnt get sheered off was that I had passed out on my living room floor for 3.5 hours when I was waiting the "20" minutes for it to be done. I am 100% positive I would have been out a lot of money.

To be on the safe side, I bought a 10" C-Clamp and pressed the module while the head/heatsink was already screwed on the host.

That's a great hack! I can't believe I don't have anything bigger than 8" around here...

Thanks for everyones help and great ideas ;)

so that is the head of the laser is it not? SBA, so you've pressed the module into the head and epoxied the wires on the other side of the head to prevent them from ripping off, correct?

There is also threads on the head of the laser, correct me if im wrong, so after the module has been pressed in the head of the laser screws onto the rest of the host?

:D

thats a great idea, although after you've pressed the module into the head with the head already screwed on how would you wire the wires from the module to the driver? or do you simply wire the module to the driver before the head screws on and then after its screwed on the module is pressed together? with this method would a 10" G-clamp work as well?

Thanks all ;)

Cheers, will

Well the driver wires were just popping out of the host so my only option was to solder them to the module :na:

The C-Clamp and G-Clamp work the same IIRC

so you've soldered the driver wires to the module prior to screwing the head on? and then once the head was screwed on the module is pressed into the head of the host? this eliminates the possibility of ripping the diode wires and pins off while the head is being screwed onto the laser, correct?

thanks so much for your advice ;) really hope it all works out

cheers, will

Doesnt matter if you screw the head before or after soldering the leads, Whatever is easier for you. But do the pressing at the very last and always keep control of the host, wires. They can slip from your hand and give you a mini heart attack :p

Ok I get it now ;) so you can screw the head one before soldering the module, you just have to have the driver wires stickig out of the head in order to solder the driver wires to the module :) when you say keep control of the wires what do you mean?

Well i was holding the module in place and the host moved a little because of a small hand bump, I had a mini heart attack that time..

I used the same method as Isaac. I soldered everything together, pressed the diode, the counter-twisted the wires to account for the 6 turns (you're welcome), so that the wires wouldn't be terribly twisted upon assembly.

Once this was accomplished, I feel it's a nice, solid construction.

Yeah counting the turns took forever.
