Indeed. this is a very expensive laser. almost as much as my lab 532. But lately it doesn't see much use. its normally like 1200 bucks plus import taxes. 700 is a good deal for it. I would accept trades, but It'd be one hell of a hefty trade item. only maybe for a very powerful yellow or something. but who knows...there's always something out there to be offered. I've been suprised a few times :)

I had to pay 400 $ taxes to import mine from Laserglow ^^

So yeah this is a good deal the OP start with.

I still like mine very much and with a beam expander it's even more orgasm, both beam size quallity without it, but with it sure can go far ^^

Could you tell us wich model the Hercules is... Are you the first owner and does it come with the papers that confirm this ?


Makes me cry, that you have to let it go....

It's a great deal if you live in the U.S. Laserglow doesn't ship >5mW units (non-lab units anyway) here any more, the only way for someone in the U.S. to get one is used, or have it sent to a foreign member, then pay to have them ship it to you.

I'd have snagged it IF

1. I had the money.

2. It used lithium ion batteries (I hate D cells)

3. I didn't already own a 500mW RPL

Yeah I'm not a fan of the Ds either, but it lasts a while and it can run on AC so it's a moot point in the house. And the RPL isn't as stable long term. I can run this thing all day. It hops a bit at saturation current in the cold, but at recommended temps it's pretty good, and the shutter I like a lot more. Downside is its freaking huge!

Yes it used to be speedy's, and I really don't wanna let it go. If my budget recovers before it's bought....

Heck... first thing i will do when i have my two new glass display cases... is to move the Hercules on the top of the shell :D

If I did snag it, it'd be fast shipping. within the same state. not too many of us colorado laserists, I think I'm the only one in G.J.

it is a nice shutter, but unless I decide to get am 800mW 532 PL-E pro, the RPL will be my last 532.

The Herc doesnt have adjustable power output does it? its one advantage of the RPL, though I don't think the RPLs really have 9 settings, there is no noticable difference between some of the settings, I'd say its more like 5 settings. nice thing is on lowest setting the divergence improves some. you're right though, it's a dumb shutter design, twist is much better

Both the Herc and the RPL have adjustable current. and the reason the power doesn't increase past a certain current is because at that point the crystal is saturated and cannot take anymore IR, past that point...its just extra heat in the cavity. the trick is to move it up gradually until the point that the crystal cannot take anymore, too much and its just extra heat, and you can even burn the crystal after a point. the herc also has overheat protection and ttl and ac, I dont think the RPLs do.

all true, didn't know herc had that, just knew about the modulation. RPL defeated or tied on all fronts but size and battery choice. RPLs do have protection for the battery, in fact only unprotected cells fit.

Wish I had an LPM so I could more accurately gauge which setting is optimum
