How long would the lasers last?

depends on how long you run it each time and how hot it gets. if you use it for short periods of time likr 20 seconds on 20 seconds on it will last several years. but if you continuously overheat it it won't last long. 110mW with a phr 803t will last a long time if you keep it cool

I like this design. Does the diode stick directl into the heatsink?

Nice work there. Good to know, that you can make a design by yourself as well.

EDIT: And no, i'm not kidding. I really like the internal design in this case. I think it's good.

Currently I'm still using the AixiZ module head to house the LD but have been experimenting with solid sinks with reamed 5.60mm diameter holes and then threading the 9x0.5mm thread for the AixiZ lens as this is a standard thread. Did you read my reply to your other post in the copper HS thread? You will see that we both independently arrived at this design as it is the most logical one.

If that is so, then i apologise. But you have to admit it would be a huge coincidence.

No apology necessary - in retrospect I should have been more observant and seen this possible misunderstanding before it happened. Its not your fault. I agree it looks like a huge coincidence at first glance but I feel on closer examination its not as unlikely as it appears. We are both scientists/engineers trained in this way of thinking. Given we have only one set of components and dimensions to work with it makes more sense than you might initially expect that the sinks would looks similar (there will be some difference I'm sure in the AixiZ module pocket depth and flexdriver pocket depth). The thing which is probably the 'coincidence' is that we started thinking about a sink for this host at a similar time. But then again - its not that hard to see why. I ordered at blu-ray from both yourself and TheMonk - both of which are fine lasers but I liked the host you used due to its potential to take a much larger sink that the AAA style traditional hosts can take. I decided to pursue making sinks for whatever host people were interested in for a reasonable price - and of course the Romisen is one fine host people will obviously wish to use. So you see - its possibly more likely than we realised at first?

Don't suppose you could build labys?

Yes I can. What people want in the way of a labby varies considerably so you'd have to send me dimensions.
