I just bought 10 "broken" PS3 sleds for $40 shipped and am splitting them with another member. $4 a piece is pretty good, but not really worth much more than that, IMO, with the GB for the 803T diodes going somewhere around $15 for a much "tougher" diode that can put out a lot more power.

They're basically for my own experimentation and whatnot :)

woah man, hold up, i'v been looking for ps3 diodes for some time now (at a reasonable price), any chance i could play a part in atleast 2? :)

Now that is a good deal.  I wonder how high they will go.  I posted these links because I remember someone (Maybe Caleb?) looking for them a while back.

I agree, PS3 diodes are not for everyone.  I am particularly interested because these have a photodiode in the can which can be used to maintain a constant power output.


EDIT: Not surprisingly, the first item was pulled.

Lot of 7? Nice. And I agree... I wonder how high this'll go. I'd jump on it if I actually knew what I was doing, I haven't had as much time/money to invest into fully starting the hobby... Would be nice to have a lower mw violet for a pointer.

someone i was talking to though LPF said they were going to make a site and sell them for around $5... i pm'ed him several times and contine to ever so often. not in abuse but to make sure he doesnt forget... i want them goddamn it :)

BTW, the broken sleds I got turned out to be not such a hot deal... only 1 of the 10 actually had a violet lasing diode, the rest were LEDs. I'm guessing that's a common point of failure for the PS3, the diodes dying... I knew they were sensitive, but if they even fail during normal use with proper circuitry, wow! :eek:

From what I can tell, they were pulled from non-functional PS3s and replaced, not the work of some mastermind laser enthusiast since the sleds were intact, just the diodes didn't work :)

Bummer! Good to know, though - I was just thinking about buying of ebay something like that - good to know. Someone else on the forum said that the diodes were not the weak part in the PS3, and that on broken sleds they were good. Oh well.

WOW!  My experience has been just the opposite.  You have a 10% success rate.  I have a 10% fail rate.

As you know, I have been making lecture pointers from these diodes to sell to other professors, using the drivers you are holding for me now and others.  I also make them using your "normal" driver (powered by 10440's) and I have made one with a flexdrive.  Out of the 20 I have been through, only 2 have failed.  I run them below 40mA of current.  I have two of them, here in my drawer, attached your "other" drivers, just waiting for hosts.  One is putting out 10mW the other is putting out 15mW. I have one for sale right now in my "Clearance Sale" that is putting out 9mW

I have 8 more diodes on hand that I have harvested from these "broken" drives.  I hope MY luck continues  :-/

I will be emailing you today about the other drivers ;)

Well, maybe I just have bad luck :p

They did only cost about $4 a piece, so it wasn't a huge loss.
