200 mW is $88 :)

In that type of module that's as high as he goes.

Oh wow. Wasn't trying to spend that much on the module for this laser :p
I'll probably stick to the 120mW. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks for all the help, +1'ed you :yh:

i am new to lasers and this looks like it is right up my alley, what do you suggest as a start to learnig how to fabriate these in the near future, your kit leaves room to learn, i have a ebay 301 and it is quite powerful seller labeled it as a 1mw but sent me an email that it is actually 200mw 632nm, very visible beam and burning and etching is possible, the thing is that it lacks some pizazz, it is flat black and focusable, i like the ability of infinite beam at night when stargazing, thank you for your time, also i live in fl. what would shipping cost me?

pucho, I think what you meant to say is that the 501B laser is a 532nm laser, which is a DPSSL. It is a solid state laser that is diode pumped by an infrared 808nm laser diode into a dual crystal sandwiched together. The first is YVO4 which increases the wavelength of the 808nm to 1064nm, put simply. Then a KTiOPO4 crystal which doubles the frequency and therefore halves the wavelength to 532nm. The beam is then increased in size by a double concave lens, and then collimated by a plano- convex lens. There is a component of infrared left in the output laser beam, unless it is an expensive DPSSL, in which case it would have a filter to allow the 532nm light to escape while absorbing ( or blocking ) the infrared component.

thank you paul, now i feel even dumber:wtf: lol im just kidding, i really like the look of these host he is selling, so all i would need to finish this off would be a laser diode wih driver, solder it up an blaze away?

another question, would the no knob version just be the laser module protruding from the heatsink? the laser i have now has a focusable ring but i like the module protrusion look also.

pucho, sorry. Not my intention at all. What exactly are you trying to do with the 501B host? If you give me more information, I will try to help you in anyway I can.

pucho, if you are looking to make a laser yourself out of parts, may I suggest an LPC-836 laser diode. It is a 300mW to 400mW laser diode in the 650nm wavelength, or deep red. It can be had for $15.00 or less, depending on your ability to find these type components. You will need a "dummy load", or test load as they are sometimes called. The driver I would recommend would be lazeerer's continuous ground X-Drive adjustable driver. You can PM him about selling you one. I think they are about $22.00 shipped. Now, on the dummy load, I have an extra one that I would send you and explain to you on how to use it for the price of shipping it to you. That would be about $3.00- $4.00. You will need a diode press for a TO-18 laser diode. Or, better still, go to DTR's website at DTRLPF.com. Look at what he has to offer and you can actually buy a drop in and solder two wires and you are done. No need for dummy loads or diode presses or meters. Just a solder station and some solder and the 510B host that Mrcrouse offers in many colors and with different options. You can PM him and get a price if you want that host. Anyway, I hope that was some help to you. That is my only intention.

yes, that is what i am trying to do paul, and i would like to use the host mrcrouse is selling, thank you so much paul that is exactly what i would like, a drop in for this host (501b) i pm`d him and i am waiting for a reply, also i did not take any offense to your posting it was me being fun:wave:ny, i am going to start looking up the items you suggested, will the red laser you suggested burn, stream a beam, so on and so forth?
