great! I've seen and heard enough... I,ll take three black with knurled knob kits. And two extra heat sinks only if possible (to swap n play). Im new and have no idea how the buying takes place. I have paypal. Do you know if there's any problems with getting these kits though Australian customs? send me some details on what the next step is. thanks

Noob Q: What do you have to do to these hosts to make then complete lasers? I saw you said something about a module+driver, but I'm still new to this and don't really understand what I would have to do.

If someone could guide me in the direction of building a 532nm 100mW in one of these, I would really appreciate it! :yh:

Buy a 12mm module, slide it in tighten set screw where the module contact the battery well, ,,, finished :) that's a very simple build.

Buy module from eBay seller techhood. He's the only place I trust for modules. He sells 100mw for $20-30. So for $40 your good.
Just make sure the module has no little button on the driver, and already has a spring and you won't even need to solder.
If you buy the right stuff, this build should take less than 5 minutes.

Thank you!! I found his shop. Is this the type of module I need to be looking for?

You got it man. Your not going to find a focus able module, but green really has no need to be. If you want focus you want a diode and that's not as easy. I highly recommend starting with this build. Nice easy, no soldering. All you need is an Allen key, and iirc mrcrouse has them if you ask.

Awesome! I would probably get the green 100mW module I linked, and since it's not focusable I can just ask for the 501b host from Mrcrouse without a knob, right?

Last quick Q, since you'll know: I want a laser with a nice beam but also can do the "tricks" like popping balloons and lighting matches. Will 100mW of un-focusable green be able to do that? I know it will have a nice beam (heck, my cheap green laser from a sketchy store at Myrtle Beach had a nice beam), but I would love for it to be able to burn that kind of stuff too :p

Oh, and what do I do with the wires that are already on the driver of the module? Just heat up the solder with a soldering iron and remove them?

You might want to get the 120mw he has for $30. I got three in the past and they would give you a little extra something for popping balloon and such. But yeah 100mw unfocused should do it. It'll just take longer of course than a stronger one. I love his 120 mW. All of them have been right on point.

And Yup just remove the wires. Desolder or just cut them.

Thanks man! Yeah for $4 I might as well bump it up to 120. Or maybe if he has a 200 I can get for a good price I'll snag it ;)

Mrcrouse, please reserve for me a black host with no knob; I can buy it sometime next week! Black in color, unless you can make a green one... Then I want green! :p

200 mW is $88 :)

In that type of module that's as high as he goes.
