PRICE DROP AGAIN: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $10

Hey everyone.

I recently damaged a couple of 445s, but they are *still working*, just damaged.

They both output a bit more than 200mW at 900mA or so, and above that I would not recommend driving because they degrade further. So these would be good for those low-power, pointer people who just like the color and don't want anything that is that strong.

The kicker? I will let these go for $10 + shipping each to wherever you are, and it comes installed with leads attached in an Aixiz module (but no lens/spring or back half). It's a pretty decent deal, considering it's cheaper than you could get one that is normal power, and these *still* work but are just damaged.

Why am I selling these? I only want one 445nm diode (I'm a rainbow collector :p ) and I want it to as high-powered as possible (for best beam-viewing), and I want to recoup some of my losses from those two diodes.

If you are curious, they died from a defective driver giving them a current spike of about 2-3A, I think.

Anyone interested? PM me or post here, I can give more information if you'd like.

EDIT: The price has been dropped to $20 + shipping, which is quite reasonable, isn't it?

EDIT 2: Price dropped now to $10 + shipping, due to rhd's fantastic reasoning skills. Of course, shipping should be really cheap in the US, probably around a buck, depending on where I am shipping it to. I really wouldn't want to ship out of the country because shipping would probably be higher than the actual product, so that's sort of out of the question.

Re: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $25

is that 25$ for two? or 25$ each?

Re: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $25

I figure it's $25 each + shipping. If that's not reasonable, I wouldn't mind letting them go for $20 + shipping each. They are still good diodes, after all. Just a bit weaker than their counterparts ^_^

Edited the main post to clarify price.

$20 shipped each, or total?

EDIT: Even if $20 shipped each, I'm looking for $20 + shipping, so I can afford to get another 445 diode without diving into my savings :p I'll consider it though if no one else is looking to buy them.

Haha. Yup! These are zombified alright. But they lase, so even if no one buys them, I can probably get some cheapo hosts and pawn them off for $60 or so as low-power 445 pointers. I just don't want to go about and do that -.-

Do they still lase at minimum current like 250mA ? I have a 445nm diode in my Newwish pen and it is running at minimum power. I don't need a fully working diode for that.

I will go check that out.

Just did some tests. Lasing threshold for the stronger one is at around 350mA, with a power of about 250mW at 900mA.

350mA is too much for the Newwish pen. At 250mA it is already getting warm. Too bad they aren't suited for my needs. Thank you for the testing.

Re: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $25

This is actually a pretty smart idea - from a few angles.

These ARE laser diodes, that lase, and 200mW is nothing to sneeze at. You can recoup a bit of your lost investment, and someone without the change to purchase a $40 new diode, can grab a zombie cheaper. Plus, as a diode for beginners, this is a little safer than a full out 1W+ blue. I would imagine that for someone who has lived in the world of DIY red pointers, and cheap greens, this would be quite an attractive budget buy. Of course there's still the issue of larger than normal heatsinking requirements, and the uncertain future of the diode. But at a low enough price, zombies are still pretty cool tech for the right audience.

It sort of kills me now that I've thrown out 10 or 15 zombie 445s. They might have been a nice thing to pass on to beginner hobbyists.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm surprised no one has jumped on these yet, especially for nearly half the price as a normal 445 diode. It's still a pretty color, everyone!

It is :)

I think you'll probably have to push the price down a bit further, but this is a great idea!

Re: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $25

Probably. I'll give it a bit of time though before I do that. May wait a day. That said, what's the best way to ship off an Aixiz module with a diode and leads attached without risking bending of leads/wires, etc.? Should I just stick the wires in a bottom half of the Aixiz module (have like 20 of them) and then put some electrical tape to cover up the open end of the front of the module?

Re: PRICE DROP: FS: Damaged 445nm Diodes, $20

- If there's no lens, then tape the front of the module to keep dust from getting in.

- If you're attaching leads, then do two things
--- Screw the Aixiz back onto the module (prevents physical stress on the pins)
--- Solder the ends of the leads together (prevents static from going through the diode)

I will offer you 2¢ for one and a tip! (Just a joke haha funny?)

That's a pretty good deal you got going there! Though I wonder how long they will last! Maybe a warranty wouldn't be such a bad idea! :) (just my 2¢!)
