Does anyone have any of the last version of FlexDrive? I have some of the newest ones, and they are a pain for me to work with, since my soldering "pen" is so large, and I don't know how to solder really well.

Yes, I have 3 of them. I would just as soon replace them with the later version. -Glenn

I have 3 of the V4 (all damaged). I PMed DrLava about repairs. Once I have them repaired/replaced, I'll PM you about the trade. Sound good?

Even if they are the same size as the V3.... you need the appropriate tools
to work on something that small... ;)

It's like eating a 3 course meal on a paper plate balanced on your knee while
standing on one foot...
With the proper tools you would be sitting at a table on a chair with a stable
plate to eat your 3 course meal... :cool: A hell of a lot easier with less mistakes...IMO

The "holes" are the same size, but you will need a tiny tip to solder the jumpers
Check out the manual to see the different combinations of jumpers you may need to do

I've ruined one already de-soldering the little SM components by accident and loosing the pieces and had to re-solder one back on, on another.  :-[

Yeah, i kinda suspected it was gonna be hard so i ordered one with preset current just in case.
Is it hard to solder to the actual diode/battery terminals? Or is it easy just like last time?

Are the holes the same distance apart?

The holes are, yes, but the components are in a much less advantageous location.  I've accidentally desoldered as follows:

There is much to be said about using the right tools. I have an iron base stand with two alligator clips and a magnifying glass, 2 soldering irons both butane powered for hotter temp as well as no loose cord getting in the way, multiple types of solder, multiple tips for the soldering iron, tiny screw drivers, tweezers, jumper wires, multimeter, coherent laser meter, thumb tacks, and lots of other stuff. I'd like a spectrometer. Before when all I had was a soldering Iron and solder I used to screw up all the time. Now I only screw up by trying to push the diodes too far. Buy some tools and your life will be much less stressful.

The distance of between the holes doesn't seem to be an issue. There are some components really close to the holes, but if you solder quickly, no problem. I couldn't get the jumper to solder when I ruined the one unit. I held it too long trying to get it to stick.
