Default Press Fit 1.25 in (32 mm) dia Heat Sinks (Compatible with Aixiz Lenses) $15

This Thread Is Closed

Get these heat sinks here.

Extend the life of your diode with these.

Aluminum Press Fit Heat Sinks Compatible with standard 9mm Lenses

Whenever two materials are in contact they have a resistance to what is called Thermal contact conductance. Resistance being a bad thing you want the fewest number of materials contacting each other to transfer the heat from your laser diode into the air. Other factors that reduce thermal contact resistance and improve thermal conductivity are surface area and pressure. These press fit heat sinks are an easy and affordable way to provide great pressure and ensure all around surface contact directly from your diode to the heat sink then finally maximized surface area contacting the air around it with these deep grooves.

What you see here are two types heat sinks.

First we have my press fit heat sinks for excellent heat transfer. These are threaded for a standard 9mm .5 threaded collimating lens (Standerd for aixiz and other moduals). For this price they are a steal.
Cost is only $15.00 + $2.00 shipping to the US and Canada. Lenses not included.

Next we have my drop in heat sinks for Aixiz modules. Your Aixiz module can be used to pinch the heat sink between the head and body of the module. I recommend using some heat sink compound between the module and the heat sink to maximize surface contact.
[CLOR="Red"]Cost is only $10.00 + $2.00 shipping to the US and Canada. Diode modules not included[/COLOR]

As you can see there are 2 ways to mount this heat sink. Head in or Head out. The picture to the left illustrates a short mount by cutting the threaded portion off the Aixiz body and using it as a nut.

Supply is limited so PM me if your interested.

Here are some measurements DX style

This heat sink will fit in many well used hosts and is great for custom projects. Here are a few examples:

No it's not a pointer but it is still my favorite host. Strap it to your shark with ease. What creture doesn't it deserve a hot meal.

OK seriously this is http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1292 with the heat sink ounted into the plastic lens:

You can see there is plenty of room for your driver and more.
This kit sells for only $25.00 + $5.00 shipping to the US and Canada.

OK here is a pointer.

This mid size is a http://http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.726
with a few easy mods.

First I trim the body down just before the threads.

Next I bend the end of the inner spring to make contact with the exposed metal.

The spring actualy goes on the other way around. This view is just to shows the bend.

Lastly I used https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7882 to drive a PHR_803T Blu Ray diode with the 3 AAA batteries. Simply connect the negative lead from the diode directly to common and it will bypass the Hi/Med/Lo/Strobe flashlight modes. Not sure how stable this driver will be so if your want a sure thing you can always use a more tested driver.

This Heat sink and host kit sells for only $25.00 + $5.00 shipping to the US and Canada.

Thanks for reading my post and good luck with your project.

Which Host?

Shark Mount
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1292

or

Hand Held
http://http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.726

I have one more shark mount in hand that I would be willing to sell with the heat sink mounted for $25 + shipping. There are some pros and cons with that one. Pros are the cool look and good amount of space. It also has a neat 3AAA battery pack with spring contacts on one end that can be used like you would with a learn electronics kit. Cons are the plastic housing (can also be a easy mod pro), The yaw adjustment isn't fine enough, and the switch being tied to a mode chip with 3 modes. Easily bypassed though.

I have 3 of the hand held’s I can do for $25 + shipping as well.

If there is more interest in either Host I will get more.

Thanks

Default More lab time

I did a bit of lab time at lunch today and fixed the pitch issue with the Shark mount. I think I said yaw up above. Anyway Here is a pic:

All I did was clip the stoppers on the ratcheting pitch pivot and added a rubber friction boot to it. Now it stays where I want it to. I only wish they didn't come with their screw holes broken like that. .It doesn’t seem to make any difference when it's put together.

Here is what you get for $25.

The OC part of me needs to disclose that he thinks I got the heat sink too hot when I mounted the it to the lens on this one. I feel I did a good job cleaning up the minor mistake and you can't tell from the outside where it counts. Here are the pics:

I do think I will get some more of these in. They are a fun host to work on and use.

Cheers,
